Gabe, that's like asking, "How high is up?"

First off, what do you intend to use it for? Self-defense (in home or for carry), hunting, target shooting, or perhaps a combination of uses. Will you be the only one using it, or will others (wife, for example) also be involved with its use? Revolvers are chambered for just about anything from a .22 rimfire up to Smith's new .500 that will darn near stop a bull elephant in mid charge (if it doesn't break your wrist first).

DOn't forget frame size is important. Should be comfortable & fit your hand.

mostly for play i have my permit so somthing i can conceal i like larger cal. but open to anything. just wanted to her what some of yall have and recomend thanks. Im leaning to the colt python 44mag. anyone have one

Wellcome gpena! There is not a Phyton in .44 mag. Maybe you are confusing it with the Colt Anaconda (.45 Colt and .44 Mag.)

Yes, there is a Colt python, however it is only in .357 Mag. The Anaconda was 44 Mag.

S&W 686 in .357 mag. You can also shoot .38 special for fun and target practice.

If you're looking for a handgun that will serve well for several purposes well, Gabe, like self-defense, target shooting, and even hunting up to medium sized game, it would be hard to beat a .357 mag revolver. The big advantage to them is that they will handle both full-power .357 loads (self-defense and hunting) and .38 specials for target shooting and even for self-defense (if you prefer a less powerful load for indoor use, I do). The .38 and .357 cartridges are also among the easiest and cheapest to reload if you're into that sort of thing. The same general rule applies to the .44 mag and .44 special cartrides, i.e., you can shoot .44 specials in a .44 mag, but not the reverse! Of course you are looking at a much more powerful combo overall. Personally, I would never use a .44 mag for home defense because it penetrates too much and the recoil is pretty fierce, but a .44 special loading is quite effective. A .44 special fired in a heavy-frame .44 mag revolver is rather mild and quite accurate for target work.

Agree Pistol. I think a .44 mag is the most versatile handgun to be had.

I have a Ruger SP-101, 357 mag, 3" barrel that I love. I have a thing for stainless Ruger SA/DA revolvers.

The S&W M629 Mountain Gun. For a good but less expensive alternative, the Taurus Tracker in 44 Mag. The Tracker is also a few ounces lighter, and a slightly smaller frame, but only a 5-shot. It is also ported.

If you can find one , a Ruger Redhawk in 357 magnum will hold up to a pile of shooting , but if you can't find one in 357 , the 44 is still made .
Would op for the 5.5" barrel . Kenneth

Thinking about hunting medium size game with it so now im going with a longer barrel I like the super redhawks 6.5 any body have one they use for hunting, or something simmular

I have a S&W 629 in 6 inch that I really like. I don't hunt with it, but if I scoped it I'm sure it would do fine.

Thanks for all the input all of you guys had for me it was a tough decision to make after going back and forth from the ruger super redhawk 7.5 barrel to the smtth 629 with a 6 inch barrel. After all the deliberated thinking I came to a decision and the order was placed today at lunch time Ill post up pics when she comes in. Once again Thank all of you for the input. Gabriel
