Make sure you don't confuse the P38 with the P38/P1, which is a post-war firearm made for police. It is a P38 slide on a P1 (1950's) alloy frame. $200 is the going price for these; I have one. If it came here in '44, it wasn't one of the late war "junk production" models. Depending on condition, matching parts, and markings, it could be worth from $400 to a couple of thousand.
