Default Finger prints

A cop investigating a crime in St. Louis Mo., in the middle of the USA finds a finger print at the scene. From there how is that finger print compared to the tens of millions of finger prints on file? Is the system computerized?

AFIS will compare the prints to the millions on file and narrow it down to the closest matches. The final ID on the print is made by a Finger Print Tech by hand.

That is truly amazing, think of the millions of finger prints they have just from service personnel! To sort through such a huge file is truly a monumental task. Can you imagine doing such a job without computers?
