Default M1867/77 Austrian Werndl ????

I RECIEVED THIS EMAIL ASKING FOR ANY INFO I COULD FIND.ANYONE? A buddy of mine, gave me an M1867, or possibly an M1867/77 Austrian Werndl,
rifle (which I believe in 11.15X58R) today. He said it had been laying
around in a closet in his home for years and he wanted to give it a home where it might be appreciated and get the love & attention it needed.
Allegedly, his father brought it back from Germany at the end of the war,
however there are no papers or anything to confirm that. Again, allegedly, his father took it from an old man who the Nazi's had conscripted into the Volkstrum for the last defense of the fatherland.
Sadly, the rifle has apparently been varnished as it has an ungodly shine about the wood & on the barrel. I'm not sure if his father varnished the rifle, or if he got it in that condition, but he tells me that it used to hang above the fireplace, so I will assume his father did it in an attempt at preservation. Along with the varnish, it is missing a few screws, such as on for the trigger guard and another that goes through the large, exposed hammer. That said, it is an interesting rifle and I find it intriguing how the rifle is loaded with that toggle.
I will try an take some photographs this week and post them for those who are interested and might want to take a look. In the interim, if someone can suggest a way to remove that varnish from the wood & barrel, without destroying any history or collectibility, it would be appreciated. Also, some suggestions where I might find sources for some of the missing screws on his "old war horse", that too would be appreciated. I know it will be a long time before I would even venture a thought of trying to shoot this old girl, but does anyone know of a source for brass, etc?? At some point, I will have to cast the chamber and verify the caliber I've avoided getting into anything black powder, but it seems now that I ve been pushed into the black power scene, without even trying..............
Thanks again.......
Chuck
I KNOW NOTHING ON THIS RIFLE, ANY INFO I WILL PASS ALONG. THANKS ----JMJ--

Indeed, the M77 Werndl is in caliber 11.15x58Rmm......and, believe it or not, reloading equipment is out there for it....but it ain't cheap!

Midway has die sets....

And Huntington has brass.....at $3.00 each!

http://www.huntingtons.com/cases_singlecaseprices.html

And here's a couple of other sources of brass:

Here's some info on fireforming 11x58Rmm brass from .348 Winchester:

As for the missing screws.....if you can find an older gunsmith, he may have something in his "Miscellaneous Metric Screws" box that will fit or "file and fit".

However, given the price of ammo, I suspect you've got a nice "wall hanger" there.

....and here's a bit of info on the Werndl for you:
