Exclamation He's OK

Friday afternoon, I was taking the elementary kids home when one of the kids yelled, "He's gonna throw up!" I stopped the bus, grabbed a trash bag and headed back to check things out. Kid was throwing up, alright. There was also blood in the vomit. He was hot enough to light a match, had the judders, a screaming headache and his neck hurt. NOT good. I jumped on the radio and had the school alerted that I was returning there and had an emergency. The Principal met me and we got the lad off the bus and into the office. I checked him into the care of the school and took the rest of the kids home.

I called his home several times over the weekend to check on him and got no answer. This morning I checked with the Principal and found that the lad was at school today, although he hadn't taken the bus. His caregiver had come in to get him and had him checked out at the emergency room. Not Menengitis, which was my fear. Just a bad case of "stomach flu."

Whew. I don't need that kind of stress over a weekend.

Pops

Pops, sounds to me like you did what was necessary in an emergency and did it competently and well. You are to be commened, sir. The kids you drive are lucky to have you.

I see your point, Pops, but the very fact you feel that way confirms my original assertion.

Glad the boy is ok. And glad you were there to take care of him.

Good job.
Glad he is ok.

Then you had to clean the bus.
Never knew what I was going to find after hauling a bunch around.

It does take a certain type of idio....errrrr person to handle the job. There is a saying in our industry, "You have to take a psycological exam before you're hired. If you pass, you don't qualify." We train a number of very good drivers every year. Some of them come back from their first run with 50 or 75 wigglers 'n' gigglers behind 'em and say, "NO WAY! I'm gunna go drive toxic waste."

They say the apple does not fall far from the tree. I did what you do now, and now do what you did then. Life has an odd way of turning round. I know where I get it all though, and damn!! I am proud of all that!!

That makes up for an entire weekend of worrying about the lad.

For those of you who don't already know, Rammiha is my daughter. She owned and ran a day care center for many years. I was in computers during the formative years of the desktop units through the PC revolution. I'm now in the kid herding business and she is a certified NERD.
