Best shooting I've ever done!
This is from a comparison test of different ammo, five-shot groups of four kinds. Distance is 25 yds. Good rifle! I like the Accu-Trigger, very crisp, no creep, negligible overtravel. One odd problem with ammunition: .22 Shorts don't shoot straight out of it, not even the Aguila match grade. They're all subsonic, but behave similarly to the CCI Stingers, spraying off high and left. I'll have to order more of the Good Stuff. In .22 LR, the Aguila match are about the same as the Green Tag. So much fun to actually hit something for a change! ![]()

With the exception of the Wildcat, they all seem to group a little to the right.
Nice range report.

I have heard good things about the Savage rimfires. Try a few groups from the bench and let's see what the groups look like. Good shooting!!!

Buy lots of different ammo and you will find the one that your new rifle likes.

Uh, Warhorse1, these were from the bench. It'll take me a while to get to trying offhand.

The problem is variation in rim thickness...most common .22 LR varies from .036 to .042 in rim thickness. If you measure it and shoot only the same thickness, i.e. .038, then all of that stuff will pretty much group together. When rim thickness varies...you don't group..you pattern...all over the place....
Each .22 is different unless you precison machine it.....so you have to experiment....I recommend that you start with CCI Mini-Mag solids. Of all the non match ammo I have measured, this seems to be the most consistent in rim thickness. You will find the same thing in match ammo but it is expensive. Recently I have had some good luck with Remington subsonic. good shooting and be safe... |
