The atf is very clear on adding a vertical grip to your pistol. ($200 if you do it your self, $5 if a nfa manufacturer does it.) either way it is a AOW requiring taxation. So here is the Question, What if you add a horizontal grip?

That's a really good question. By the letter of the law, they specify a vertical foregrip, so I would assume that a horizontal grip is permitted. The recurring issue in the ATF regs is concealability, so since a horizontal grip would make it harder to conceal I'm guessing that is why they specify vertical rather than any in regards to a foregrip. A horizontal foregrip is alright. For example look at all the AR pistols and AK pistols that put horizontal grips and lights and what not on them
