Taurus 1911 Pricing Problem?

Saw the add for the Taurus 1911 clone in the latest NRA Magazine the "American Rifleman". Taurus has a pricing problem!

The add says the price is less than $600 and their website says $703. This is "bait and switch" or false advertising or ?????.

Anyone have any insight into this Taurus 1911 pricing problem?

Unfortunateley this is academic for me as I live in California and the PT1911 is not on the safety certification list (no loaded chamber indicator or magazine safety) and never can be...no sales in CA! This is the eventual case for all 1911 originals and clones (unless they are 50 years old then they are C&R) and each will fall off the list over the next couple of years when the state will refuse to renew their safety certification when the current one expires. Some 1911's were never on the list (Taurus and SIG (??)) and can never be purchased in CA unless you wait 50 years. GET YOURS NOW!

Don't know about the magazine add, but I have seen several on
the internet and a couple at the gun show and the highest price
I saw was $559.00.

I had heard that Taurus was increasing the price of the PT1911 to the $700 range, but wasn't sure about "when." I think what has happened is that the ad campaign that Taurus put together long ago, and ad space purchased in many magazines (again, quite a while back) hasn't run it's course, but the increase has already taken place. It's much easier to change your website content, than change magazine ad copy.

Chances are good that you can still get a new one for the sub-$600 mark. But soon, dealers will have paid, and thus must pass on, the price increase.

Just a guess... but it's the most logical thing I could come up with.

Most of the gun rags are printed two or three months before going on sale. That could be the reason for the mixed suggested retail pricing. No one pays suggested retail for any firearm. Someone always has it cheaper.

Also, the increase in price could be due to supply and demand.

I got mine for $449 last Christmas! (2006) At a local gun store.

Mine came in today and I paid $534 + shipping for it.

I think he probably has more but I know for sure that I have mine!

Their website is MSRP which I have never paid for a firearm. Always been able to get firearms for less than MSRP.

You guys are lucky to have choices in dealers. I got two in my three city area of over 200,000 people and each has a very limit number of guns (very limited but can order anything so there is little price shopping to be done). The best dealer for choice of guns in in the LA area is near my daughter's home but it is straight list price for them. The big dealer in her area that used to have excellent pricing is in jail for weapons violations as is the big gun show dealer from that area as well.

But within an hours drive we will soon be getting a Bass Pro Shop who may have better pricing, at least that is the hope. We expect a fully stocked gun store including reloading supplies too. We'll see how that works out. Then you add the California limits on what guns can be sold and it is almost like living on a desert island for guns.

Seems Texas or the South is the gun heaven but then you have the weather to contend with. Good thing I have a pretty good collection of guns already!

I'm here in north Idaho and I went to Spokane, Washington on April, 7 to the gun show and bought a PT 1911 from a Washington dealer for $495, no tax since I live in Idaho. Then I payed $10 to an Idaho dealer to handle the transfer and we made the exchange at the Wal-Mart parking lot in my town. The guns are out there and good prices can be found. I took a friend of my wife's gun shopping in town today and helped her find and buy a S&W M&P .40 S&W for $479. Sounded like a good price to me.

I got mine on the INTERNET. paid $499.

And I don't see how California can ban one of the safest gun designs of all time......oh yeah, its California.
I guess that is why I got the hell out of there!

My family left Orange County (Fullerton) in 1978 and I haven't been back nor wanted to go. I always say we "escaped" in '78. Only a divine miracle can save that state. I think it's a lost cause but who knows???

It turns out that it is not bureaucrats deciding how to end guns in California but the liberal legislature itself. The law clearly spells out that there must be a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine safety, safety testing, assault weapons bans, etc..

Between the "let's get a free handout" people, the tree hugers, the change to socialism people, the elitist who think only they have the answer for you and me, the power hungry people who want to control everything, and the frightened of guns people, the rest of us in California don't have a chance. These people control our schools so they teach this crap to our kids and our kids end up joining their ranks. Most of the state geographically is conservative but most of the people live in the liberal areas of San Francisco area and the Los Angeles area and the liberals end up controlling the state. I think we'd be better off if California became two states, North CA and South CA and those of us in South CA would have a better chance at conservatism but I fear that would only be temporary. Indeed, we are doomed!

But we win little battles: AR15 guns, for instance. The law spells out specific guns and features and some of us have figured out how to circumvent the law legally. We buy AR15 without interchangeable magazines, buy ones not on the list with features that put them just under the assualt weapons definition. I see AR15's and other listed gun types for sale at every gun show. There are even store front dealers who sell those guns that get around the law. The DOJ is working feverishly to stop them but they have not been successful, yet. So if you live in CA and want an AR15 go to one of the big gun shows and talk to the guys. I got mine! legally, including a letter from the CA DOJ saying it is legal.

There was a time when I and many Californians like me sold CA to outsiders as heaven on earth with good weather, good job market, open spaces but all that has changed for the worse. Today the opposite is true and I try to dissuade people from coming to CA to live!

If I remember right, Taurus' website lists them for around $700.

I got mine online for a tad over $500.

By California standards, the weather here would qualify as 'extreme', as would our (non) attitude, on arms; I'm about to take a good (she bites, but is selective in whom) dog, and a couple of cases of ammo, out of here, to my 'country' place, to trim trees; we compliment one another, in that I will shoot what she does not 'handle', without question!
Niether of us could suffer thirty days, on the west coast, because we would not 'fit in', but, here, we are of the majority!
The dog, an 'Australian Cattle Dog' or, in this country, a Red, or Blue, 'Heeler', is a direct descendent of George Strait's "Butch", a grand daughter; the little bitch is protective, almost to a fault, of me and mine; she ran a 120 pound 'Chocalate Lab', and his owner, all the way into the river, yesterday, dragging a chair, with her leash attatched, and he (the owner) is my 'more or less', stepson!
True enough, she would be 'unaccptable', in California, and provoke many lawsuits, there, yet, here, she is a bit beyond the 'norm', and respected, even feared, in 'stock dog' competitions, because she simply 'gits the job done' with no wasted effort!
She was no means a cheap animal, but she was what I wanted, and I simply had to 'suck it up', and pay the price, which, in retrospect, was far less than she is worth, today, but seemed like a lot, at the time.
Many of my firearms follow the same pattern, in that I paid more, for them, at purchase, than I thought they should cost, but, just 'had' to have them; seldom, if ever, have I been disappointed, in their performance, if I allow for my ability!
Get the heck out of California, move down here, into Texas, and your options will expand, exponentially, as to what you can buy, and legally possess!

California is way too liberal and out to get my guns but I'll not live long enough to see them come and get them from me. My son most certainly will but he's not into guns. I'll have to settle on bitching about it.

I picked mine up yesterday for $509.00 before tax. MSRP is generally
always higher than retail. From what this shop told me though, Taurus' products & Springfield's 1911s are getting more difficult for them to obtain at the moment because Brazil's demand for steel is currently outweighed by supply. I take what I hear with a grain of salt, but did notice they had fewer Taurus' products available than they usually do.
