Default Rifle sighting and training?

Speaking or target practice

Back in the day when I did SERIOUS deer hunting we used to practice practice practice. Not just sighting in the rifles from a bench rest, but off shoulder, snap shots, etc etc. One day we got the bright idea to make a moving target..

So,, we got a couple of ole tires with no rims, took some bailing wire and hung a white cardboard in the middle. Now your GOOD friend would kick that tire off the hill and it would "run" down hill.. The object was to hit the target, the white cardboard, as many times as you could without killing your buddy!!!

I got real good at that, my Remington 06 with a 3 shot clip, and one in the chamber could hit it 3 or 4 every time. The hard part was dragging those dammed tires back up the hill for another try!! Just an idea for you to park in your brain for some other time.

Sounds like a good way to practice for deer on the move, however I wouldn't wanna be the one rolling the tire.....I'm chicken that way

Make your own with materials at hand! Like it (but, yeah, I wouldn't want to be the downrange guy either)!

One of my friends does the same thing every year with his deer hunting group. The bouncing action of the tire closely simulates a running deer.

As for dragging up the tires, you could get or make a pulley system and a long rope and haul it up the hill.

we just practice on rabbits here in texas... and to answer alazan, you can take and shoot anything at the range here in texas as long as its not full auto, or a shotgun with a less tha 18 inch barrel, or a rifle with a less than 27" over all length (correct me if im wrong). most shooting rages frown upon fmj ammo, but most will still let you shoot it.
