Default Nazi Dagger?

Anyone on here know a value of knives/daggers? I've got an old German dagger with sheath, etc. that my dad gave me. I don't want to sell it, just wondering what its worth. I'll get some pics of it in the morning, hopefully. Right now, its in my closet upstairs, and the wife is sleeping. I'd hate to wake her at 1:00am and tell her, "I needed to take a pic of this nazi dagger"

don't think she'd understand, lol. But I'm just wondering if I get a pic, can anyone give it a value?

Paul, Sportster guy huh?

The photos would be a great help in evaluating your knife.

I'm sure one of our experts will "take a stab" at it. lol

Original Nazi daggers in good condition can be worth anywhere from $300 to $25,000. There were so many variations it would be impossible to come up with a value without seeing pictures. Also, the markings on the blade need to be examined.

the only marking I could find was "A W S" (around a scale, A on top left, W on top right, and S under) then it said "Alcoga Solingen"

You have a very fine Army officer's dagger. These are the most common, but yours seems to be in excellent condition, and I would estimate the value at about $450. However since you have a beautiful hanger attached, you can figure it's worth is increased to $700 to $750.

I gave one just like it to a good friend that I grew up with. Back in the fifty's I gave a dollar for it when I was ten or eleven. Mine looked new when I gave it away. Don't regret parting with it. See some fakes at flee markets. They have plastic handles and look cheap. Bob

nice. A dollar, not bad. I was talking to my dad about the value, he said his brother did some work on a house in New Orleans and they gave him the dagger and a Nazi Dress Banner. His brother gave them to my dad. My dad sold the banner about 12 or 13 years ago for $2000 and recently heard it is worth around $15K. What a bummer. That would be a nice piece to have. He has an old picture of it somewhere. I've searched *********.com to see if anyone is selling something like it, but I can't seem to find one.

My catologue shows about $500 as the top end on your dagger. It is a model 1935 Army officer dagger, complete. The only problem I see is the finish is peeling from the crossguard and the blade shows etching from being handled. I'd get into a serious routine of oiling and wipeing the blade after you have touched it. The celluloid is also highly suseptible to moisture, that being the handle material which shows darkening.

I have a collection of Puma and Puma/Lauterjung daggers which I keep in climate control in nitrogen cases. Daggers are just as serious an affair as gun collecting and grade similarly.

light coat. Thanks for the info. sorry for being ignorant on this, but what kind of oil should I use and is there something other than a nitrogen case that I can store it in? (or where can I get a nitrogen case and how much $$) thanks again.

I would start by carefully cleaning and polishing the blade with Maas (available through Death-Mart er Walmart). Cleaning the hardware attachments should be avoided except by the highly experienced. I use Rem-oil on blades that I have exposed and just enough to tell it is there, a very light coat indeed.

My nitro cabinets cost about $800 a piece when I bought them I would not suggest purchasing one for a single dagger. I would instead steal all of the silica dessicant packets out of shoe boaxes and leather goods and keep the dagger in a somewhat airtight box or case with the silica packets concealed inside the box. I do this with minor daggers which I buy for resale.

When you store the dagger with the knot and hanger always lay the hanger flat and don't bend the knot either since the bullion thead and cloth do not like being crimped.

For future reference to anyone interested. When celuloid and some other early plastics break down in addition to being highly flamable the also release a chemical which promotes rust in steel. I've sacrificed many a handle to save the blades of semi-rare pocket knives.

light coat. thanks for the help. No, I won't be getting a nitrogen case, lol. I think my dad and I are going to build a case for it, and I'll steal some silica packets from my wife's shoe collection (over 100 and 3/4 are still in the box), so that should help me out, lol.

Arrow Re: Nazi Dagger?

You have a buckle broken off of one side of the hanger. This will reduce both value and desireability as the replacement part will be almost non existant. IF you find one there is every probility that it will not match the other one.
The portepe cord is rough close to the knot and it is not tied correctly on the handle.
The overall condition of the dagger in places shows improper storage, I would guess you live in a damp climate.
Be very carefull trying to clean this up - especially other than the blade - as you could do more damage than good!
In it's current condition, I would gestimate value at around $500?
