Ok, most here know I bought a new Ruger 2245 and yes its a shooter!! Tonight I just purchased a 38mm Tasco Red Dot along with a HKS speedloader from Midway. The Red dot was on sale at 32.00 and the speedloader was 4.99 total with shipping 46.36 I wanted to try the red dot system to see just how tight the groups will get at 25yds. I was going to try the window pane style Red dot but I kept thinking of how its sitting out exposed just waiting for breakage and I opted for the tube style Red dot for the durability factor. The speedloader at least for me just makes sense. So do you think the Tasco Red Dot will get the job done? Yes I realize it would have been better to ask this before placing the order but I wanted to get the items before this weekend, so I can try them out ASAP.

Most "Expert thru High Master" Bullseye shooters use the 1" tube "UltraDot" or an "Aimpoint". The Aimpoints are about 3X the price of the UltraDot. Both tend to have very little optical parallax, so it does not matter if the "red dot" gets off center in a rapid fire string.
The big 38 mm Tasco will likely have lots of parallax at just about all ranges. Thus, it will be very important to make sure that you keep the "red dot" well centered in the field of view if you wish to be aiming to the same spot for each shot. UltraDots probably start at about $150.00. Last edited by Hammerslagger; 06-12-2012 at 10:11 PM.. Reason: correct price |

Let us know how it works for you please. I was looking at red dots today also, and had the same questions. I saw a bsa pane style for about 45.00 that had my attention, but I don't know if they are worth using or not.

I was looking at the pane style also Munch, there a little lighter but look like it wouldn't take much to break them. Just don't look durable IMO, but I could be wrong.
