Gotta apologise. I lied, I think, about my favorite. If that means, "the one with you the most" it's a Brno Model 2, built and proofed in Czechoslovakia, but roll printer "Made in UAR" . Came from Navy Arms as a " MAS 45 type training rifle", at $79. Looked like it had been thru Hell, or at least, the Sudan, .003 too much headspace, at .046, and has now inherited a Leupold 6X scope worth twice what the rifle cost.
Refinished the stock, mounted the scope, shot it in (3/8" @ 50), and put in the toolbox on the truck, 100,298 miles ago. 4 or 5 deer have fallen down at the sheer sight of it (scary, at night), and a couple of dozen squirrels lost their minds, over it; can't count the jacks, who wish they had never seen it! I love my Stevens, my pet, but this gun goes everywhere, and always shoots well. List, PLEASE FORGIVE ME!

Wish I'd never sold the stainless model 60 I had. I've got a beautifully customized Winchester model 67. They're about one step ahead of a zip gun, but accurate as all get-out. This one's a p-dawg killin' unit. My Marlin 7000 is accurate and fun to shoot, but finicky about being cleaned. Overall, I guess my Marlin 25MN gets the most use and kills the most varmints of the bunch. I take it whenever I get out of town. OK, so the 25MN isn't a 22lr, but it IS a 22 rimfire.

I don't think anything beats a good Model 67, Colonel. That was my first gun almost 65 years ago, and still the most accurate one to shoot. Never did anything to it but use it.....

I've been keeping my eye out for one that I could keep original. Since the finish was shot to hell on mine, I had the bbl cut and re-crowned, had it drilled & tapped, mounted a Simmond 4x on it, then had the whole works, (rings, scope & bbl) black powder coated. My dear ol' dad re-worked the stock with a Schabel-end forearm and since the butt-plate was non-original, we made a real pretty one out of cherry and maple with black spacers. All told, I guess the gun cost about 10 times what it sold for new. Made a good looking project, though.

Tac 401: As a point of information, so long as Plano and I are in Texas, there will be NO Winchester shortage, here; we like 'em a lot!
With 3 Win single shots (M1885) in the closet, a Stevens M54 (44 1/2 Frame), a 52-C, a 52-D, and a third, Clyde Hart barreled 52-D, with a 1 1/2 inch barrel, 26 inches long, we've only begun to sort of inventory the rimfires! The one I shoot most, a Brno model 2, never leaves the truck. The one I shoot best, a Rem 40-X sporter, in a woodgrain MacMillan composite stock, cost me more than the truck's worth. Rather than beat me up, over indecision, let's do this: My vote is for anything in the caliber; if anyone has a 22 they DON'T like, I'll adopt it, at NO CHARGE!

I have a Win 67 made in the early late 40's the the finger groove fore end.
I have only been shooting it for about 50 years now and it is still accurate. Seen one at a gun show last month they were asking $250 for it

I'll throw in my 2 cents. My all time favorite 22's are older Remingtons of all kinds. Could be that I grew up shooting my Dad's old Remi back in the 50's, but, they were well made and accurate and not out of a poor boys price range. Since I am past the half century mark, it would be interesting to find out if us older guys reminisce or if older rifles were indeed better made for the "price" we paid for them. I know that newer metal alloys and techniques are used these days but I still like the feel of the older rifles. Just an older hunter turned plinker reminiscing........
p.s. I do love my little Henry H001... ![]() |

My fav by far is my Remington 512 Sportsmaster. It was my very 1st gun and it has spent many a day strung across my back on a hunt trip or out and out turning cans into cheese graters. Dad promised me if we found on at a tiny gunshow hed buy it and luck of luck for 250.00 I got it( I know 250.00 might be high but for Valdez,Alaska it was well worth it to me). The one I learned to shoot on,my dads was given to my nephew as his 1st gun.

I bought a KDF K-22 back in the early 80's that is a work of art in MO.
It has very nice walnut with rosewood forend and blueing like you don't see anymore. I might add that it is very very accurate. |

My first .22Lr rifle was a 10/22, I've also had an AR7, 2 Remington Nylon 66's, but my all time favorite is my Savage Anschutz model 141. I was hitting golf balls from 100 yards with it today....(of course that wouldn't have been possible without the new Bushnell scope I put on it)...

I've got several "name brand" .22 heavy barrel target rifles, but for looks, fit and finish, lock time, and accuracy, I'd have to pick one of these BSA Martini Mk III's. I bought the first one 'cause I loved the looks of it. After shooting it, I bought the second one 'cause I'm greedy.

Jay, please! Don't start no S*** and there won't be none!
These folks are all talkin .22's, and you drag out them things! True enough, I mentioned some Win ss's, and a Stevens, but dragged the Brno in, to keep the peace, so to speak. But, my friend, those are MARTINIS, not, .22's; this is not fair dinkum. If we are going to shove the thread in this direction, I fear the audience is lost; Single Shot Addicts, by definition are of superior standards and taste. Most of my shooting club do the "bolt gun thing" because they do not know better; most, also, take very personally the issue of being "whupped" by a beautiful crowbar! I love those gorgeous Mk III's, have a Mk II, myself. And, more cadets, of varying provenance and caliber, than ever I will wear out, but, these are not simply rifles, and displaying/ comparing them to bolt guns will lead to nothing but hard feelings! Perhaps admin will split this thing into "favorite .22", and a "Beautiful rifle " thread, so we can continue the essay; fact remains, at least, in my opinion, that none of my Win 52's are in the same league with those(climax design) Martinis! Beautiful design- beautiful rifles- too scarce, and pricy, but almost perfect! Terry

I grew up with a Marlin 39A Golden Mountie carbine wh the boys and I still shoot. My Dad gave me that gun when I was too small to hold it steady from a standing position, so I opted for a (now) 90 year-old Stevens falling block til I was a teenager. Both have been loads of fun.
Having said that, the gun I've always wanted is the Browning take-down autoloader. Hoping to find a deal on one before too long. I'm purely a plinker, so am only interested in either auto or maybe a good pump. (I have heard nice things about the Remingtons and know they're much cheaper than the Browning, but....) |

My favorite 22 is my Mod 12 Remington with full octagon barrel in Long rifle.
It has the beautiful brown patina on the metal with the original stock in good condition. However, the one I use the most is an old JC Higgins (Sears, circa 1950's) mod 29 semiauto. It is a nice light rifle and easy to control and much more accurate than I am. It is really fun when just burning up ammo, man is it fast!

I've had a Marlin M 60 since they came out. They have never given me any trouble. SoMo also has a Glenfield M 60 that is a sweet shootin' rifle.
They are fun to hunt or plink.

I'd have to say either the Anschutz match rifles my sister owns or the CZ-452 series. I currently own their "Scout," which is their "youth" model. Unlike the Chipmunk or other "youth" models, it's not so short that an adult can't shoot it. Gorgeous Turkish Walnut, fantastic Czech craftsmanship with a classic Mauser action. For a short (5'6") fellow like me, it makes a great little squirrel gun. I'm just not too happy with the scope currently on it, as it's too darn big for the rifle and not designed for a rimfire.
