My Squires Bingham Mod.20 semi....I have the factory 15 rnd clip as well as an aftermarket 30 rnd clip.
It shot perfectly right out of the box from new in `84 and continues to do so. None of this, "750 to 1000 rnds through it to break it in" crap like the 10/22. Its NEVER failed to fire in 24 years....not like my 10/22 which has FtoF every mag. |

I have a remmington 597 that I like shooting but my favorite is this old Winchester 67A. It was my dad's rifle when he was a kid and the sentimental value makes me feel like it will always shoot best:

Remington 512 Sportmaster (tube-fed bolt action). Grandpa taught me to shoot with it (after the BB gun, which I also still have), and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I only have three .22 rifles left and would have to go with the Winchester 9422.
The Rossi model-59 copy of a Winchester model-62 is easy to carry and a lot of fun. The Winchester 490 was made in Canada and matches up stock dimensions with a model-100, model-88 and model-70 that was designed to be a low cost practice rifle for the centerfires. It's all-steel and has a great feel. Last edited by Danwin22; 04-22-2013 at 07:34 PM.. |

My dad has a 67A just like yours and it was the first gun I ever fired at age 5. Ah, memories...

I have four 22's to play with.... new Browning T-bolt, Marlin 981T, Anschutz 520/61 (the plinker) and Savage/Anschutz 23A Sporter.
![]() But my go to the woods first choice is my Mossberg 142A with 18" barrel, 37 OAL and probably as accurate as the Browning and the S/A Sporter 23A bit easier to carry in the woods. The 18" heavy barrel on the Mossy is all that needed to get the job done, This is a hunting gun and not a plinker or target gun, ammo was never wasted and it always brought home the game. It has less then 5000 rounds through the gun, probably some where in the 3000 to 4000 range would be about right. ![]() The Mossberg I got for my 7th birthday (IIRC) from my dad in either summer of 1952 and I took it to school for show and tell in second grade.

i have 3 .22 rifles, a stevens mod 87d, a winchester 190 and a winchester 9422. the 9422 would have to be my favorite. it belonged to my grandfather and is a very light, easy to carry, and accurate rifle

My favorite (judging by rounds fired) is my Charter arms AR7 I picked up back 1979 but the one I am currently using for hunting purposes is my marlin 60. Recently picked up a remington 542 and am still getting it dialed in.

I still have three of these guns. Winchester 9422 Winchester 9422 XTR Rossi 59 (copy of Winchester 62A) Winchester 490 Winchester 69A The 9422 XTR and 69A are gone but I still have the others. Last edited by Danwin22; 04-22-2013 at 07:34 PM.. |

Waldo Pepper,
Who said anything about hunting with the rifle. I have other guns as well. He ask for your favorite 22. ![]() It's my favorite because it shoots likes this. It makes it hard not to like it the best. |

Looks like the groups my Anschutz shoots. I agree there are two different types mentioned by me. My favorite shooter is a toss up between my Anschutz and my TAC-SOL AR-22, the Annie shoots like a laser and the 25 round magazines from a bi-pod AR-22 that is almost as accurate is a real hoot also. I guess the reason for the AR being the favorite to shoot would be it looks way cooler then the Annie, holds more rounds, easier to clean, and just about as accurate.
My favorite hunting rifle would be the old Mossberg, just because I have had it since I was a kid. However I would probably carry the Marlin 981T because of practical design, and just not wanting risk a family heirloom. Practical design meaning the 15 round tube feeding, composite stock, a good hunting trigger of about 6 lbs or a tad less, as well as tight shooting groups would be my real choice for a hunting gun.

Maybe you can tell me some more about you Anschutz Waldo. What model do you have? Does it have the original annie barrel. Just curious.
My original Suhl 150 barrel shot like this at 25yds. .021ctc was what it measured. It would take a super duper Anschutz factory barrel to beat that one. ![]() |

It is or was a all original never fired 520/61 (the 61 is centimeters of barrel length = 24") and weights a ton compared to other 22 rifles I own. The barrel is easily removed for cleaning, so is trigger group. The wood forearm is retained by one screw and when trigger group is removed the stock can be screw off that way or by removing but plate and using large long screwdriver the stock can be removed with out taking anything else off the gun.
I hope to be able to get to the range for bench testing in December and have some pictures of the gun and targets. Just off a sand bag and elbows is all I have done so far and the bench rest will tell the story.

Best for all around use, my BRNO CZ II (forerunner of the 452), my first rifle, circa 1958 when I was 13. Still a tackdriver, won a few metallic silhouette championships with it, still groups inside one half inch at 55 yards with RWS Match or Eley Tenex, the one I'd choose if I had only one shot and had to make it count.
Target: Finnish Lion free rifle, shot it for almost twenty years in my state ISU rifle team. Not as advanced as my later Feinwerkbau 2000 UIT match rifle, but a beautiful rifle from a time when fine gunsmithing was taken for granted. My father bought it for me, used, when I was 15, during the first National championship I competed in. I sanded off the walnut stain on the stock and refinished it in clear lacquer, leaving the beautiful golden wood to show through. .22 pistol - a Colt Woodsman Matchtarget, shot quite a few metallic silhouette and UIT Standard Pistol matches with it, a very fine pistol, a pity Colt stopped making them. And, for plinking and small game shooting, a Colt Woodsman Sport model with a 4" barrel. A lovely little gun. Now them (and my other target guns) lie gathering dust on my gun cabinet, since a few years ago when misguided legislators here in Brazil passed an impossibly restrictive (and wholly inefficient) firearms disarming act which had the great result of leaving only bandits armed... It would be a toss up between my old Mossberg 42M-B or my 10/22. The Mossberg for accuracy and the 10/22 for being just fun to shoot.
