Default ROAD APPLES

ROAD APPLES

Yesterday I concocted, cooked & consumed this recipe.

I liked it so well ..... .....I wanted to share it with yall.

INGREDIENTS:

1 Bell Pepper per person
1 can (per 2 peppers) Hormel's Homestyle Corned Beef Hash
1 box of Velveeta Pepperjack Cheese (1 lb.)

If yer pack mule is carrying ice, you can pre-make them at home.
If not, none of the ingredients need to be referigated (until opened) and can be prepared at campsite.

Cut the top off the bell pepper and save.
Clean out the pepper and sprinkle inside with garlic powder (My heart medicine of choice)
Place a piece of sliced cheese in the bottom of the pepper
Place a table spoon of hash on top of the cheese
Repeat until pepper is full

Place top of pepper back on

Lay on a sheet of aluminum foil and wrap it like a Hershey's Kiss, thus securing the top in place

Slow Roast over camp fire or grill,

Using a little common sence, time is not too important
since the water in the pepper will keep it steaming and not burn for a while

When foil is removed...salt & pepper to taste.

There ya go... ya got yer meet, potatoes & veggie all in one simple tasty package.

For you city types, youngins or anyone that has never marched in a parade that has horses in it......

A "Road Apple" is that round part of a horse turd....... ......

I'm always on the look out for good corned beef hash recipes Al. Never did try the Hormel brand, don't think it's available here. I use Puritan, mmmm good.

My brother came up with one when he was a "poor college student" a few years back that we call "Hobo Hash". One can Corned Beef Hash, one can Peas and Carrots, mix, fry in a pan, serve. Might I suggest the old army solution of "Tobasco can make ANYTHING edible"? You guys used to get a little bottle with your C's right? I imagine Hobo Hash tasting a lot like the ham and lima-beans (MF's?) I keep reading about.
