First post. I'm Dave from Washington State (Seattle area). Hi. This looks like a forum that I could learn from. I need help from you folks.
I recently bought a Marlin 981T because I want (need) the option of target shooting as quietly as possible. I target practice with shorts on National Forest land and there are many hikers out here who are freaked out about guns. The 981T is fairly quiet with .22 shorts. It doesn't seem to cause much alarm. And I can tube load 25 bullets at a time. My question is: What distance should I be shooting Remington High Velocity shorts at for fun & challenge, and what size scope should I buy? Thanks!

If I were you I would go and pick up a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40. I have one on my new 981T and it is great. I didn't pay for it because it came mounted on my weatherby but I know that they run around 70 or 80 bucks. I put a Bushnell Elite 3200 on the weatherby and the 981T got the banner.
