If you reload with Bullseye or Unique, and have recently bought some, look here! http://www.alliantpowder.com/products/recall.htm
This potentially a very dangerous situation. If you load Bullseye to Unique levels, you've got a serious problem! ![]()

We'll make this a sticky.
It's fun to joke, but please be sure to pass this information to all the reloaders you know. You might save a limb, or even a life.

Sorry Somo. But gallows humor always was one of my weak spots.
Seriously, how often has anything like this happened in the past? This is the first boo-boo like this I've heard...just THINK of the potential liability...

Don't be put off by the date on the recall. There are still some canisters of the stuff floating about. Check your lot numbers.

Pops is right.
When I do happen to splurge & buy an 8lb cannister I'm amazed at the coatings of dust on the 8 pounders. Some of them have been on the shelf for years. I have two 8 pounders of Unique now & they're older than 2005 & not from these lot numbers. I shudder to think that it was entirley possible I could have mistakenly been stuffing Bullseye into my loads. Please spread the word Popgunner |

Maybe this explains my improvement at trap since I switched to an unopened but dusty 8#er.

I believe Bullseye is somewhat finer-grained than Unique. If my memory is correct, one could verify what is in the cannister marked "Unique" by compaing the grain size to some known Bullseye (or Unique, for that matter).
If my memory serves poorly regarding this, disregard. (I'll trek over the 1/4 mile to the shop tomorrow morning to confirm; if wrong, I'll report back). edit: An even more certain distinction between burning rates, especially rates differing widely, is to ignite a controlled small quantity on an anvil in still air, carefully watching the burning time, and repeat this again with powder of known origin. Bullseye and Unique burn at rates differing by enough that one may easily tell the two apart. Last edited by jinn; 07-26-2008 at 05:04 PM.. |
