I first want to thanks everyone for the help with my first posting. I got my first 1911 about a month ago and I'm in love with it. My problem is I would like to get rid of my current carry gun and replace it with another 1911. I need a 4 or 3.5 inch barrel. I looked at the Springfield Champions and I like them a lot...just not the price. I don't want to spend as much on this gun as I did on my v-12. I like the full size frame with the shorter barrel. I don't need all the "loaded features" on that gun. I also saw a mil spec in a compact version. Has anyone handled these guns? How small is it? Can you fit all four fingers on the frame?
Anyone have any ideas...4 inch barrel 400-500 dollar range.
kimber? have any good cheap 1911's
I might just wait till I can afford the Champion, but I'd rather find one in my current price range.

thanks
and sorry so long LOADED

Loaded, have you given any thought on a Colt 1991 compact? Used, in the ball park of $450.00.

Maybe, but I'd rather buy a new one. I'm thinking about the Springfield Mil Spec compact. I'm trying to find one, so I can handle it.
thanks

You know how much a stripped down version of a compact Kimber is?

If you use an inside-the-pants holster, barrel length doesn't matter as far as concealability is concerned.

I prefer my LW Commander for concealed carry, mainly because of weight, but I can conceal a full-size 1911 just as easily.

Springfield Champion or Colt Commander will work for you. Both have the full sized frame and conceal well with the right holster.

DeSantis holsters are the best and most comfortable
holsters in my opinion!

I use a style 026 leather IWB holster which also
has a belt slot on the opposite side for optional
belt carry too.

Nice holster, but they don't list it for the Commander. Any other ideas. Something fairly comfortable while driving.

It's truely a personal preference Loaded, and how much you want to spend. There is some fine makers out there, Milt Sparks, Kirkpatrick Leather, Graham's Custom Leather,Kramer.

I recently was in the market for a holster for my Sig 239. I decided on a hi-ride, lined, belt scabbard from Safariland for $30.00 (new "old" stock from a local dealer).
However, I am looking at a Milt Sparks IWB that range from $50.00 up.

Good Luck

I made a few mods on my LW Commander....long tang grip safety, trigger job, polished feed ramp, enlarged ejection port, pachmayr flat mainspring housing & grips, and an MMC adjustable combat sight.

However....I'd suggest that you shoot it and practice with it just as it comes.....then make any mods that you think are right for YOU.

Loaded, Have you decided on a holster for the Commander yet? Check out www.wilsoncombat.com . I use their Lo-Profile for everyday carry and it's the most comfortable holster I've ever worn. Even while driving.

As far as any modification to your Commander for carry. Do what you like , just make sure it's reliable. And by all means use goods mags. I prefer Mags from Wilson or Metalform. They feed every round smoothly.

Thats a nice holster. It goes inside your pants right?
I just bought the Wilson mags yesterday. My series 70 is getting a new grip safety put on. I also just got a Nowlin match trigger and a comp. trigg. job on my V-12. Breaks nice at 2 7/5 lbs. thanks

Loaded, the Wilson Combat Lo-Profile is a pancake style
holster. I have used Milt Sparks and Mitch Rosen IWB holsters but no IWB holster is very comfortable to me. Especially when driving. I wear the Wilson holster all day . Just be sure to get a good quality gun belt . If not, you'll be pulling your pants up all day. LOL.

You're going to like those mags, none better.

What? I don't think 400-500 is cheap. Its not like I bought a Llamma or anything.
