Member Posts: 40 (5/3/02 7:28:48 pm) Reply Pros and Cons of different 1911 brands -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well im pretty sure that im gonna buy a 1911 when i turn 21, so im trying to decide now what i like the best. Just from reading this board and browsing websites i think i have narrowed it down to Kimber, Springfield, and Wilson as my top choices. Of these i have only shot a Springfield and i really liked it. My question is what are the different pros and cons of these, and which models do you guys like the best? The Para is a 40 S&W and the Springfiled is a 45, 45super. I love both guns and have had absolutely no problems with both. I would not sell either for anything. I was lookin at the Springfield longslide but sort of discarded it because it cost more. With thins gun, I can change the recoil spring and shoot the new 45 super round. I can still shoot regular 45's. I can also shoot 45p+. With the regular spring it shoots 45's like between a 40 S&W and 9mm. P+ shoots like a regular 40 S&W, and the 45 super shoots like a regular 45. The extra inch and porting make this firearm handle like a dream. I use it for hunting, and carry open here in Missouri. Granted the porting is loud, I still love shooting this gun. Right out of the box and less than a weeks worth of shooting it, I duplicated the "Mell Gibson smiley face from Lethal Weapon) I got both eye's the nose and 2 out of 4 lips in less than 20 seconds free hand. Witnessed by Bass pro Range manager. With the 45 super, the velocities are considerably higher. I think they make an unported model. I know that the porting helps, but so does the extra inch. There are two longslides, the V-16 and the Regular longslide.
