Can anyone tell what kind of wood was used on the Model 60, It sure does not look like Walnut!

It might be gumwood. It was common for Winchester to use gumwood on earlier carbine rifles in the 1890's, but most of the latter ones used walnut.

I think Rocketman is correct but by the time the model 60 came along I believe only walnut was used by the factory.

Thanks, this rifle was made in 1930 and the wood on it it is very light,like birch.
