I would like to know the approx. value of a new in the original box, unfired:
Colt Camo-Companion 1911 45 acp semi-auto pistol. Note: the gun came with a full camoflauge finish. (Complete gun has a camo finish.) Also, I am told that only 150 were made. (a small 150 is on the colt grip medallion) serial# " CAMO-0XX " (note; I substitued XX for the real #'s) I bought it new in the late 80's or so.

Hi vettefun.....welcome to TFF.
![]() Well.....that's a new one on me! It's not listed in the Standard Catalog of Firearms, The Standard Catalog of Colt Firearms, The Blue Book of Gun Values, or in the Blue Book's listing of Commemoratives, Special Editions, & Limited Mfg. Do you know if this was actually a Colt Factory thing or might it have been made for Lew Horton or one of those aftermarket distibutors? |

No, it's not listed in any of the reference books. However, Colt does confirm that 150 of these were produced in 1987. Yes, it is a rare Colt model, but unfortunately, scarcity does not necessarily denote value. Value is always dictated by supply and demand, and in this case we have a very short supply, but an almost non-existant demand. Bottom line: Place a high value on the pistol, advertise it, and wait for a buyer. Someone may eventually come along and decide he has to own it. You should contact Colt and get a factory letter of authencity. The buyer will want to see that. I would probably ask $2000 for it for starters.

xracer: It is in a standard factory Colt box. I was told a long time ago by someone ( I don't remember who) that it came from the Colt Custom Shop. What ever, where ever.??? I don't know. I priced it at double what I gave for it. And when I got took up on the price, it sent cold chills up my arms that anyone would pay that much for it. Now, that I have a better idea of what it could be worth to the right person.....(double my asking price) reckon I better hold on and enjoy looking at it more!
wonderwhippet: thanks for the info! Back in 1992 I sent for imformation to the "colt collectors ass., inc." and they sent me a letter back that they were, quote: "not familiar with the model and that it is most likely a small production run of special interest guns colt has produced for a wholesale distributor." They also stated that a new series 80 gov. model is priced at $640.00 and 100% listed in "The Blue Book" at $540.00. And (quote) "that the Camo Companion should command a higher price than the standard gov. mod." Remember this is from 1992. This is all that I have had to go on. This is what I was looking for in a forum! Thanks! Hope I can help someone in this forum in the future! If anyone else has any info on the camo companion... I'm interested. PS. I was also told that at the same time, that camo AR-15's were made, maybe sold as sets. (I'm not sure on how many AR's were made.) |

How do I go about that? Do I just send a letter to Colt... ?address?, asking for some form of authenticity? ?
