Hi H8tulooze....welcome to TFF.

Webley Mk. IV's were confusing....because there were two of 'em. The Mark IV (Mark 4, 1899) in caliber .455 Webley, and the Mark IV (Mark 4, 1942) in caliber .38/200 (.38 Smith & Wesson).

Yours is the Mk.IV (1899) in .455 Webley.

Here's some more info on Webley military revolvers:

http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg91-e.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webley_Revolver
http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/4849/webley.html
http://www.marstar.ca/AssemblyWebley.htm

The Standard Catalog of Military Firearms gives a value of:

Webley Mk.IV (1899):

Exc. - $375
V.G. - $300
Good - 225

If yours locks up tight and has a good bore, I'd say it falls in between the Good to Very Good category....maybe $250 or so.

Might be worth more. It hasn't been shaved, and guns that haven't are hard to find.

He means.....had the back of the cylinder shaved so that it could fire .45ACP with 1/2 moon clips.

In the '50's & '60's, many of these older .455 Webleys were imported, but .455 (rimmed) ammo was scarce & expensive. In order to make them more attractive & useable to American shooters, the importers had the back of the cylinders machine shaved so that they'd accepot .45ACP with 1/2 moon clips.

Yep. I know lots of folks with Webleys. And most of them, like mine, have been shaved. Which makes unshaved guns scarce, and therefore more valuable. First time I ever saw one (must have been '74) I fell in love with that ugly thing. Like a bulldog, they are so ugly they are beautiful. And I thought that the machining of the cylinder was a great idea. Couldn't buy it (wasn't old enough). Found one 6 or 7 years ago. Snatched it up real quick before the idiot found out he had it underpriced. I really enjoy it, but I wish it had an unbuggered cylinder.

Thanks for the info. So mine is not shaved, how much more value or a total should it bring? I am selling off my collection of guns.

Thanks

H8tulooze, thinking that Xracer's values might be a little low, I asked some people that collect Webleys. They said 5 to 6 hundred, "at least". http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?t=33041

Might try some better pictures (taken outdoors, in natural light. your flash washed out much of the ones you posted).

Joe Salter is offering a IV for 795 Item # 9104. His many pictures should give you a good way to compare yours.
