Default Ammo for a 1951 Marlin 39A

Am wondering if i need to shoot standard velocity 22's in my newly acquired Marlin 39a, vintage 1951. Or can it handle anything hotter? Thanks, John P.

My original Marlin 39a digested just about any ammo well but preferred a high velocity round best. I lost that rifle, originally bought in 1941, in a home break-in [burglary] in the early nineties. Before this item was stolen I had put several thousand total rounds through it over the approximate fifty year time period.

It was replaced by a newer 39a in the mid-nineties and the same is true of the newer model.

I think the only ones that would be restricted to standard speed were probably made in the 19th century. There was a major shift to stronger steels beginning around 1895.
