Member Posts: 1 (12/30/02 12:01:14 pm) Reply Differences between 1911 and 1911A1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello all, I was curious to know what the difference(s) are between the 1911 and 1911A1? I have alway been fascinated with American WW2 weaponry, and I'm looking to purchase 1911s/A1s, M1s, Thompsons, and such in the near future. Wheres a good place to look for them? Thank you! Very little real difference, and all parts will still interchange. As compared to the M1911, the A1 has: slightly larger sights a relief cutout behind the trigger guard. a shorter trigger no "ears" on the hammer a slightly longer tang on the grip safety an arched mainspring housing As for collecting WWII U.S. Military weapons.....well, they're out there, but original, unaltered ones are getting expen$ive! Decent, original military M1911s are creeping up on the $1000+ range. Military M1911A1s are in the $6-800+ range. M1 Garands (original, unaltered, correct matching parts) will run $7-900, M1 Carbines from $4-600....BUT beware of fakes made up of leftover military parts after WWII. As for the automatic weapons....BAR, M1928 & M1 Thompsons, and the M3 Greasegun....these are fully automatic weapons and require a Class III FFL. I have no idea how much these guns would cost, and they won't be cheap.......but Good Luck!
