Just curious as to whether anyone out there might know which weapon it is that is carried by ground troops that will in fact shoot around corners.

The M-3 (Grease Gun) had an extra curved barrel that
one could attach if needed, if this is the one your
talking about.

Well ...... Tac is somewhat close as I understand that they did have a somewhat curved barrel that was used at times but it is not this particular weapon.

The "flame thrower" is actually the weapon I am refering to here however. When we "lit the match" on these ole' timers in ITR training they had us demonstrate its effectiveness.

Hit your brick/concrete wall right smack in the middle with your finger steadily on the trigger housing and the flames will eventually creep all the way around the corners till the structure is surrounded. Mind you now I am not speaking in terms of a "monstrous" structure but more along the lines of a 12' X 12' type. Definately impressed I was to say the least.

Holy Hell Gunner---those old torches were some mean ****---we didn't have them allocated in our Seabee battalions, however had them demo'd to us at Pendleton. Frank Densmore, the Iwo Jima Marine, told how a burner in his squad who had the pack on his back, took a round and blew up---BTW Gunner, I was/am a trained boiler operator---when you use #2 fuel oil and the burner orfice gets clogged, the burner flame will wander all over the fire-box instead of shooting in straight---kinda like the flamethrower operation---wierd and dangerous **** because the flame it supposed to buffett off the refractory brick walls. Just a point of recalling stupid **** you pull when you're young and ignorant, you have to stop the unit, clear the nozzle on the burner, and so the steam pressure doesn't bleed off so quickly, you can re-light again off the hot refractory brick---Damn, the results is called a 'flareback' and sometime you can blow soot all over 40 acres.
Minor flarebacks will just singe your hair and eyelashes!!! Wilborn
