ESPINGARDA PORTUGUEZA XX MOD 1904
DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN. Well that's what is says on the side of the 2 rifles I just walked through the door with..... all numbers matching on bolt. safety, etc.... The XX before the MOD 1904, is an overstrike maybe it is a 55? Very Good bores on both but one is a little better than the other.. chambered in 8X57. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I found out the overstrike is from the original 6.5mm chambering, and in the late 30's they were re-chambered to 8mm Mauser, the crest is that of Carlos the 1st, assasinated in 1908.
About 100,000 rifles were manufactured between 1904-1908.... Monday I pick up my Finn M/39, and I WAS going to get a Steyr 95, but a "sporterized" Siamese in 45/70 that I have been after for a while is up for grabs, and I need to jump on it ASAP A third Portugese turned up today, but it was in somewhat poor condition, but I was able to get the cleaning rod off of it....
