Default Wal-Mart Database

FYI

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world's largest retailer, unveiled plans on Monday to film its gun sales in the United States and create a computerized log of purchases in a bid to stop guns falling into the wrong hands.

Wal-Mart, which is the largest seller of firearms in the United States, agreed a 10-point code, which also includes rigid inventory controls, with a bipartisan coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns led by New York's Michael Bloomberg.

The retailer said it will develop a first-of-its-kind computerized crime gun trace log that will flag purchases by customers who have previously bought guns later recovered in crimes.

"Wal-Mart currently uses a strong point of sale system," said J.P. Suarez, senior vice president and chief compliance officer of Wal-Mart. "This code is a way for us to fine-tune the things we're already doing and further strengthen our standards. We hope other retailers will join us."

The Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership is designed to strengthen the points in the gun purchasing system that criminals have exploited in the past, Wal-Mart and the Mayors Against Illegal Guns said.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, 46 percent of its criminal gun trafficking investigations involved cases in which someone who is not legally allowed to purchase a firearm does so through the use of a proxy, known as a straw buyer.

Should I every buy another firearm from Wally, and not knowing if they are recording sound, I will give Bloombutt a special hand signal to show how I feel. After all, mooning the camera is a bit too low-class even for WalMart.

Would look real funny if they ever had to track me down and went back to the footage. Two or three minutes of me doing my, "I'd like a little service here," jumping jacks.

That's a real good tactic BTW. You go to the sports counter to buy some cheap ammo, but no one is around. Then you have someone paged to the sports counter but still no one shows up to sell you the ammo, just look directly into the nearest security camera and start doing jumping jacks. Works every time.

WalMart does what it does because they think there is money in it. I will prove them wrong. I've said before and i'll say it again...i PREFER to buy from gunshops and not WalMart. Actually, scratch Prefer and insert "WILL ONLY"!!!!!

WalMart better be carefull... they might wind up on the loosing end of a large lawsuit....

I've never bought a gun from Wal-mart but I absolutely gaurantee I never will now. This is similar to ebay, just another corporate giant caving in to pressure in order to improve their public image. No way I'll ever be part of it. I wonder how many guns sold at Wal-mart actually end up on the street anyway, considering all they sell are typically hunting rifles and shotguns. I'm not going to be treated like a criminal for exercising my constitutional rights. Bloomberg already knows what I think of him...I took the time to mail him a post card last year just to tell him what a vile, disgusting pile of crap he really is.

More and more wall marts are getting out of Firearm sales it seems anyway. I think filming it is a bit intrusive, but its their decision to do it. I will buy my guns and gun stuff elswhere

The local walmart has quit selling guns. When I asked the older woman who is supposed to be working in sporting goods, why, she said guns are dangerous. I told her dumb ass that if it wasn't for guns and Americans knowing how to shoot them she would be speaking german or japanese instead of English. She just walked off. I haven't set foot in walmart since and have no intention of doing so.

Just remember this....It only takes a Presidential Order to bypass the Constitution of the United States. That's how Roosevelt was able to outlaw the possession of gold in 1933 and put American citizens of japanese ancesstry in Concentration Camps. That's all it will take to destry the Second Amendment!

Am I the only one who could care less? Since I don't plan on going out and killing people I could care less if they have me buying a gun on video. I could care less if they video tape me buying my frozen pizzas too. And I could care less if they kept track of it too.

If it gets the anti-gun whackos to think we are being more "reasonable" then who the hell cares what Wal-Mart video tapes?

I don't go to WalMart anyway, and it has nothing to do with their firearms policies. I don't care to flush American jobs down the toilet. WalMart is a volume-purchasing power-broker. I know other stores can be just as bad, but those other stores don't have the volume buying power and therefore as powerful of a destructive pricing structure as WalMart has...

So, this doesn't affect me. I do believe that the costs associated with such a system will put WalMart entirely out of the firearms business, which is what Bloomberg intended in the first place.

I don't bother with Wally's place.

It's so much more fun to shop at a designated gun shop and visit with folks who know what they're talking about.

The selection is larger and the small shops smell better. (Hoppe's #9) As soon as you step thru the door you know you are among friends.
