Looks like it might make for a nice backup gun. Keep us posted on how it holds up.

@ Topbreak:

No problem.

@ Artabr:

if you have small hands, sure. My GF owns one. She got it cause "it was cute" (her words.) (gotta love a chick like that)

I can't stand the thing. Its too tiny for me. Although its probably because my hands are quite a bit larger than hers. (10 inch handspan (I can grip a regulation basketball/soccerball with one hand))

the pics on the site are acutal size(the ones that show the slide back on mouse-over)

Although I don't know what she did with those finger extension bases, perhaps those would make it a bit better. She's got the flat base on em now, cause she shoots with one had cupped under the mag so she didn't like the extenders.

I just don't like not having all my fingers around a gun.

I saw one of these when looking around for pocket holsters on the web. I was impressed with the looks of the gun. Keep us posted on how it holds up after a couple hundred more rounds. This might be a good gun to recommend to my grandfather who's looking for a pocket 9mm.

I do have one question though... The website says that the height is 4", but is that with the finger extension on the magazine or without it? It seems that the finger extension is about 1/2" long?....

I am bumping this thread to the top. I was at my local gun shop earlier in the week looking for a small inexpensive 9mm. The owner of the shop tells me that he will sell me a brand new SKYY 9mm for $150 OTD. I am checking to see if there is anyone who has one and what they think about it.

K75RT, if you come around any more, have you fired the one you pictured and if so - how does it perform?

In the firearms world you: "Usually pay for everything that you get" and it is easy to pay for things like big advertising budgets and limited production that do not enhance the actual performance of the product. This is especially true of some niche and imported guns.

Occasionally, someone who is already in another similar precision mechanical manufacturing business, can extend into firearms manufacturing; producing a fine quality product at a "great value" price. However, I can not of a single example at the moment.

Kel-Tec might be a possible example, except for the fact that they got a bad reputation for reliability from products that never should have gotten past their QC inspectors. I have personally examined and tested several such examples of this over several years. Still, as one of their executives once remarked (something like the following) to me in a telephone conversation, "You know you have a great product when one of the big makers copies you".

As to the SKYY CXP-1 pistol that is the actual subject of this thread. I tested one shortly after introduction when gun shops were offered a special intro deal. It seemed to perform acceptably for a very limited test of an inexpensive product. However, I am advised that this shop no longer sells them, because of problems with the safety tending to move to the "safe" position (after a few hundred shots) when the gun is fired. The pistol does not really need a safety, but "product Liability concerns" forced the manufacturer to likely install one.

Exclamation Re: Follow up Skyy/Sccy Pistols

Several months ago I contacted Skyy Industries now Sccy Industries, I told them that my slide refused to lock back and they sent me the parts to fix it. They have a "life-time warrantee" but you pay shipping to them. I opted to fix the gun myself it was very easy and the parts arrived in short time. Since then i have had several other problems which are all due to poor heat-treatment or material or design. The thumbsafety would self engage during recoil, I called and they sent me an improved afety which I installed it was no better. I solved the problem by pinning the safety in the off position. Two weeks ago I was at the range and the firing pin broke, it looked like it crystalized and just broke most likely due to poor tempering. I called them and asked for the parts, which were installed with no problems. Yesterday I was at the range, the gun shot 42 times before the gun stopped. I removed the jam and have determined that the extractor is broken. The extractor hook broke clean off, again it appears to be poor heat-treatment or material.
I will have to call them next week to get the parts ordered. I am through with Skyy, Sccy, I will fix the gun and get rid of it... Too many problems related to quality control.

It stinks when you buy something new and it's a POS. Time to trade get rid of it. I suspect the 9MM is too much for that platform with their heat treating methods and cheap parts.

Today I had some time at lunch to call Sccy Industries. I asked for them to send me a new extractor, spring and pin. The woman I spoke with asked me for the serial number...I can't carry at work so I explained to the lady that I had called on 11/2 for a firing pin, etc. She looked my name up and sure enough they had my info...sounds like they are having lots of request for repairs and or parts. They are shipping the parts out on Friday.. Does any one know if the parts are made by casting? Metal Injection Molding MIM? or perhaps brittle carbon steel caused by poor heat treatment? Too bad 'cause they had a decent platform a copied Kel-Tec design but they seem to have Fubar'd it....

I have a skyy 9mm. I dont care too much for it. My son in law bought one used and the extractor was broken. He called them and they sent one out right away no charge. I installed it for him and its up and running. He complains of jamming all the time. I dont shoot mine enough to know. I originally bought it for my wife but she didnt care for it either.

I have a CPX-1 that I purchased about a year ago. The only trouble I have had is that when shooting certain brands of ammo, I'd have about 1 FTE in every magazine. I then tried some Winchester white box, and have gone through about 200 rounds without a single FTE. Overall, I'm very pleased with it.

I Bought one yesterday. Cleaned/lubed it before I took it to the range. Here are the pro's and con's...

Cons:
I got off about 50 rounds and sure enough every 2 or 3 shots I would accidentally touch the safety and it would engage. Its pretty annoying that no matter how i held it it would still engage the safety accidentally.

After I got back from the range I stripped the gun for cleaning (which it really didnt need) I pulled the slide back, removed the clip, and as I was pilling out the retention pin I heard a crack....oooh no! My guide rod snapped, locking up my gun so that I could neither pull the slide back nor push it forward! so I gently pusted it back and forth until it finally gave and came back apart. Yep it was my guide rod! But not only that...In the process of getting it unjammed it bent up my recoil springs and the recoil springs basically sawed a huge gap in my frame!

I am currently in the process of an RMA with SCCY. They will send me the parts to fix the recoil spring and guide rod, but I'll have to pay shipping to get my frame fixed!

Pro's..
The gun shoots very well. It DOES NOT KICK...I don't know what everyone was complaining about. I am used to shooting mostly 40 s&w, but seriously it kicked like a SIG 22 Mosquito! I could get all 9 rounds on a human silhouette target at 25 yards away in about 5 seconds! I noticed minimal muzzle flip!

The gun also feels great in my medium sized hands. Except for the safety engaging every now and then it was a pleasurable experience to shoot. But for those of you concerned about the safety issue they do offer a kit that basically makes it where the safety cannot be activated it you are worried about it!

I contacted customer service today, which was a pain. It seems that they are in the process of moving AGAIN! The phone numbers on their website are not working. I had to dig across a few forums to find their updated phone number. The new number is 386.322.6336 if anyone needs to contact them.

I was very impressed with their customer service. It was very similar to Hi-Point. Basically they ask for your serial number and will send you whatever part you need free of charge. If you need something like a receiver all you need to do is mail it in and they will make you a new one with the same serial number on it. The Customer Service Representative said all you pay to send it back is the shipping one way.

So far they have sent me:
1. Guide rod/ recoil spring assembly
2. Upgraded safety kit (to help with the safety engaging)

This is one dangerous pistol. Because of its price it was the first pistol I purchased. What a dangerous piece of crap. Very poorly made, very unreliable. When I put it down on the table the slide would lock back on its own. It moved while sitting on the table. Broken internal pieces, well too few to mention. Customer service, if you like doing the repairs yourself. Not a good primary or backup piece.

Just installed my new parts. I ordered the safety removal kit and a recoil spring/guide rod assembly. All works well.

Just got back from the range. Shot 100 Monarch FMJ Brass Bullets through it. It worked flawlessly! After installing the safety removal kit it shot well. No more safety issues. Shot 7 inch groups at 48 yards. The gun probably would should shoot better but the trigger linkages make it inconsistent. I have noticed some wear along the receiver from the slide rubbing it. My next project will be to polish the slide so it will minimize the wear on the aluminum receiver.

Over all I am very happy with my SCCY CPX-1. I bought it used with one clip for $200. I Think it was worth the price.

Edit: For some reason when I am in the process of putting mine back together the barrel doesn't want to push forward. If I'm not careful the barrel will come back and the guide rod will chew up the receiver. So be careful Putting it back together. i find it helpful to push the barrel down while racking the slide then inserting the retention pin. I will upload pictures soon of my work.

Well, I don't have this gun so my opinion is mostly worthless, but after reading the posts here and the other thread on the gun it seems like the only pluses are something like: 'did not blow up in my face today, yeah!'

A pistol that you have to worry about like your worst enemy is not worth diddly-squat.
