Default Garage sale addicts, a question

Maybe “addicts” is a bit harsh, maybe not. Anyway, this question is for those who go to (or used to go to) a lot of yard/garage sales. Have you cut down on the number of sales you go to, because of the price of fuel? Or do you still spend the day looking for bargains?

Not a big yard sale person but in general I have found myself thinking about my trips to and from anyplace a lot more than I use to. I also take the motorcyle when I just need a little item or two. The clerks do look at ya a bit funny when ya pull up in a Harley rather than a car in those drive throughs.

I enjoy going to garage/yard sales, you can find some neat stuff, like the old saying goes one mans trash is another mans treasure. I have to admit the price of gas has a profound effect on the number of sales i take in when i do go.

There are times when the wife and me get this unquenchable urge to go, that we forget what the price of gas is and just go for it.

My two youngest children grew up being dressed from yard sales until they were out of elementary school, about fifth grade. Got like new stuff for them at about 2¢ to 3¢ on the dollar.

My wife & I are hardcore yardsalers. We have a couple of rules & that's to only go to the sales listed in the paper & we go on a route pre-planned & we hit Estate sales & wealthier neighborhoods first within about a 30 mile radius. We hit 'em quick & early while the good stuff is still there.

Best finds of our travels have been a very nice camcorder with 4 batteries a couple of months after it was bought & gifted to a rich newlywed couple. Their parents had bought them a 500k house & paid for it 100% as a wedding gift. They had gotten two camcorders as gifts so they sold us one of them for $10. Also a like new TC Hawken rifle for $100 & a Winchester model 37 .410 for $100 at another yard sale. I got a brand new fancy wheatgrinder for $1. We got a cool teak dining room table with 8 matching chairs for $50 that we've been using for years now. Also a brand new never been mounted set of 4 BFG all-terrains for my old F-150 for $80. I got a 1966 Chevy Biscayne in great shape-283 v-8 & powerglide for $100. On & on the fun stuff we've gotten.

Gas prices havn't stopped us from bargainhunting

Sorry Pistol, ain't gonna happen.

One of the reasons I posted this, is that my wife was going to Cheyenne to help her sister with her yard sale. I know it depends on what your selling, but as it turned out, they made $2.75. They had some good stuff. Hardly anyone showed up.

Around here we have city wide garage sale days. You buy a sign from the city, and post it in your yard.(I hate greed) They have had them for so many years in a row now, and the same people have sales every year, that all you can find now is the junk that didn't sell the year before. Usually everything is priced so high that you could go to wallyworld an get it for the same price.
The towns around here are all smaller, under 800 people, so to go to a bigger town, you've got to drive 20 miles at the minimum, and gas is almost $4.00 a gallon. On a tight budget, you just stay home, or plan on getting groceries, hitting Wal-Mart, visiting Grandma, and garage saleing all in the same day. Gets to be a long day for the kids.

And don't be a smart butt, and ask me why I hit Wal-Mart. Danny does that to me all of the time!!!:
