Default Remington 552 Scoped Accuracy

I've recently purchased a(nother) Remington 552, this one an early 80's ADL. I've never used a scope on a 22, but with my eyes getting worse I feel it's about time to try one. I guess I heard at sometime in the past that 552s / 572s aren't very accurate with scopes because of the mating of the barrel to the receiver (relatively "loose"?) - is there any truth to that? Any comments from someone with first-hand knowledge are greatly appreciated - if I get a scope for my 552 it'll be a good one (Nikon or maybe Leupold rimfire), so I'd like to hope that it'll be a worthwhile investment. I know that a lot of shooters of these rifles use scopes, so I'm a bit skeptical that there is such problem with them...

Thanks!

Default Re: Remington 552 Scoped Accuracy

I have a 552 scoped, and it is quite accurate with a nice variety of ammo.
One pleasant surprise is this; most 22 rifles cannot shoot the Aguila 60 grain subsonic rounds very well, usually keyholing after about 20 yds. The 552, maybe because it is designed to shoot everything, may have a diff bbl twist than a normal 22, becuase mine shoots the big 60's very accurately.
