Help....if anyone can help me out with the approximate value of this gun,I'd appreciate it. I have seen several of the standard gun, but this one is engraved with silver overlay. It has one piece ivory grips and there are no cracks in the ivory. All of the numbers match, even on the wedge. Blueing on the frame is probably 90% or better, except for the barrell and cylinder. Under the barrell there is bluing and the loading rod also has bluing on it. The cylinder still has some of the engraving on it. The mechanics are tight and works very well. I think this gun was manufactured in 1853. Check out the photos!

Hi Tommy.....
Your Model 1849 Pocket Revolver appears to be factory engraved, and the ivory grips appear to be factory also. You really should send off for a Colt Historical Archive Letter to determine if that's the case: http://www.coltsmfg.com/cmci/historical.asp It's not cheap ($200), but well worthwhile in the case of a firearm such as yours, and documentation of factory engraving and grips would enhance the value of your revolver. As to value.....there's no way we can give you even a ballpark estimate of a Colt of this potential value. It really has to be evaluated "hands-on and eyes-on" by a Colt expert. |

I agree with Xracer, the cost of the CHA Letter will be money well spent.

Just a note of warning. Colt doesn't have the history of all of the Model 1849 Pocket Revolvers.....the records of some of them were destroyed in the 1864 factory fire.
