I have a High Standard that I bought new in 1975 and never let it go. Even after many friends trying to buy hit. It's a High Standard Sharpshooter with the bull baarrel and thumb rest. Still shoots great.

40 years ago, my almost first pistol was on layaway( HS citation bull with weights)
I traded up when the Browning Medalist came in and when I paid it off I had the guy hold it for me till I turned 21 (which happened in basic training at Ft Leonard Wood, MO) I came back and got it (short haircut) and the dealer said he expected me to be military by then. I had it under my locker at FT Myer VA and belonged to a shooting club there. the Pres of the club was the famous shooter & coach Ellis Lea. Tis fun to find out a buddy was famous long before you met him. anyway, Years later I met my old first sergeant from Ft Myer and asked him what would have happened if I had got caught with the gun. "A couple months pay and I would have kept the gun!" Whew! I still have it and love it. I may donate it to my fave Military School instead of my kids screwing it up somehow. I had a Super Single 6 and sold it (Dumb) ktf citydesk175 |

I have had various guns 22, walter p22 (it didn't work if not with cartridges to high speed') beretta etc. etc. I have found satisfaction in the Ruger mark II bull barrel inox and besides this I possess a standard Pardini (the best to bring to house of the medals )

I have a Colt .22 Peacemaker with a 4 1/2" barrel. It has .22 and .22 WMR cylinders and its probably my favorite. My others are my Grandma's High Standard 9 shot w/ 6" barrel, S&W 22A with a 5 1/2" barrel.

For general shooting it's the S&W K-frame, models 17 and 18. For target work the S&W model 41.

Wow! This is an old thread. Nevertheless, I shall weigh in my favorites. Colt Woodsman, both the target and shorter barreled "Sport," Ruger Standard and MK II, PPk/s, S&W mod. 18. and I like the looks of that old H&R that Fishteach posted. TJ

Just the other day I picked off a bobcat one shot head shot at 60 yards with my Ruger MK 1. Love it! My Hi-Standard Double Nine is a great gun too.

How would one go about determining the worth of a High Standard Olympic Citation chambered in 22 short. This pistol is in mint condition, fires straight, but came without the barrel weights.

Really hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to, I`d probably go with this one.

Its a hard choice, I'd say each of my grandfathers (moms dad and dads dad) 22 pistols are tied. One was a High Standard (sharpshooter, iirc) had heavy-ish barrel. Other was a Ruger Mark II with heavy bull barrel. Real fun picking off crows at 75 yards with a pistol, and thats the only one I've ever shot that'll do it without a lot of skilled smithing first.

GSG 1911-22 and Sig P220/22...(I wish I could find a SW617 with 4" barrel.)
The GSG 1911 will eat anything while the Sig P220 is a little picky on its diet..I found a brick of .22LR Lightnings I bought back in the 80's in my old shop..Id alway pick up one of the $9.99 bricks everytime they went on sale...This particular brick had been in the La. Heat and cold for 20+ years...The GSG never missed a beat...The Sig didnt care for them at all... |

Im rather partial to the black eagle target mk 1 I picked up a few weeks ago. No problem at all hittn golf balls at 50 yds with it.

Yeah. The MKI.
And Browning BuckMark Target. My dad owns these two, and he probably get the most use out of the MKI. Shoots a couple thousand rounds thru it every summer. The best .22 cal pistols Ive ever fired. |
