Default Secession

I listen to Glenn Beck alot and a few months ago he was discussing some group that was talking about the possibility of some western state (Montana I believe) seceding from the U.S. due to the fact that everything has gone so socialist in this country. Any thoughts on this ? I live in Ohio and am seriously considering moving out west to get away from all the liberalism that has permeated the midwest. This is how badly I hate liberalism(I don't hate liberals, just the harm they're doing to our country).

If the Obamanation gets elected. There may be a large movement for secession. So people can escape liberalism.

Try living in the Northeast. NH used to be an independent state and there is a big government movement afoot up here as well caused by all the people moving in from various "people republic" states to escape the BS and then they vote the same stupid way up here.

We are retired and winter in Texas and it's refreshing to go down there for a few months.

Obama is a crooked Chicago politician period. When he comes after our guns then there will be civil disobedience. The irony of it all.

Secession is not an original idea since the end of the War Between the States and there been several movements in the past hundred years for states and regions to form new political entities. Here is a link to one of the more interesting attempts:

http://www.jeffersonstate.com/jeffersonstory.html

There is a more recent concept floating around for the past few decades called Cascadia. It involves the western provinces of Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territory and Saskatchewan) and the western states (Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Northern California and perhaps Alaska) forming their own nation.

This idea came about based primarily on economics, but also culturally; the people of western North America generally have more with each other than they do with the people from the eastern regions of their respective countries. Cascadia actually originated in Canada, I believe, and was making some headway there in the late 80's and early 90's when the insolvent eastern provinces were trying to pass their debt off to the financially sound west. The rumblings have been far quieted of late, but you never know what the future may bring.

I have never been a proponent of the Cascadia movement, but have found it interesting and been keeping track of it, on and off.

There is a semi-active movement by a group in Alaska to secede from the U.S.

To Thomas 44: Although I live in the VERY liberal state of Washington I do spend quite a bit of time in Montana on property (586 acres) I own there. Unfortunately, in my opinion, Montana is slowly growing more liberal. This is true particularly in the larger cities in the state. Perhaps a Montana resident who is a member of this forum can add to or correct my opinion. Montana is still "The Last Best Place" in spite of the political changes I see.

Actually, the solution to the whole problem is simple: Sell (or give!) California to Mexico, then sell Washington and Oregon to Canada. What the heck, the British wanted them anyway. Next, encourage all the states on the Atlantic seaboard, above the Mason-Dixon line, to secede and form the Peoples Republic of the Atlantic, taking with them the Supreme Court and every damn politician in Washington. As for all the rest of the states, call a new Constitutional Convention and re-adopt the original Constitution and Bill of Rights.

See how simple it would be with a little imagination?

You know, even if we did only that last step, it would still put us in great shape.

I don't think succession would be the death of the constitution... in fact it might be adopted by the break away territories and enjoy greater respect there, who knows? In fact any nation on the earth is free enought to adopt our constitution if they cared enough for their own people. The constitution is not copyrighted to my knowledge...
I doubt there would be a lawsuit if another country adopted the concepts that are in our constitution.

I wasn't meaning that succession would kill it; I was meaning that it's already dead.

Well.....if Alaska did seceed from the U.S., think of the billions of dollars in Pork Barrel Projects we'd save. Maybe we'll save 'em anyway when Ted Stevens goes to jail.

Not to worry X, Obama will see to it that the pork barrel is filled well beyond capacity. After all, Minnesota needs a few more lakes dug up north, and a new submarine base in Colorado would aid the economy.

They would get much more selling us oil. As a free country they could drill where they wanted to.
