Hunting and shooting are deviant hobbies, says Finnish psychologist

No, the headline is not a joke. This brainfart was publisahed this morning in several Finnish newspapers. Criminal psychologist Jaana Haapasalo (a woman) considers hunting and shooting to be deviant hobbies. E.g. "hunting allways aims to kill the animal, and that is not required for survival in modern society", says this bright lady, who is also apparently some city council member under the banner of Finnish Communist Party.

She wonders why Finland has a social atmosphere that accepts hunting and also that a person´s interest in guns is deviant.

Apparently this outburst was caused by the last week´s event when a father (teacher by occupation btw) shot his two kids, his wife and finally himself by his hunting shotgun.

A deviant hobby eh? Excellent. Making a senseless statement like that is a quick way to undermine her reputation. That's assuming the poor misguided woman had any to start with.

No, he's right. In a state of nature and pure grace, we'd be doing those things all the time, they wouldn't be "hobbies". What's twisted and bizarre is that we're fooling with computers and stuff when we ought to be out tracking down and killing large animals so our offspring can live to reproduce.

"Hunting always aims to kill the animal". well, duh, that's the point, aint it? i guess some people think that store bought packaged meat is not dead animals? where do these ideas come from? when i hunt, i do always aim to kill as i makes it much easier to skin the animal than if it was still alive.
