Welcome MarkM. $1200 all ya got?

That sorta dough will get ya a nice piece. Springfield & Kimber come to mind.

Just to let you know...I've started a non-profit orphanage for 1911's...donations are tax-deductible and for a great cause. I'm also working on a foster-care program if you have a 1911 that needs a temporary or permanent home...I'm here to help

Thanks, and God Bless

Chuck

Well, I've got a nice P9S 45 I've been thinking about converting into a 1911. Have shot a nice Kimber before, but have been a little concerned about some of the negative comments I've heard about them.

If I had the money to spend (and I don't) I would be looking at the Wilson CQB.

What have you heard about the Kimbers?

I've just heard some of the peole on the hk board complaining about the quality of Kimber's internal parts. Like I said, the one I shot felt better to me than any other 45 I've shot.

X52tele,

DId you have a '52 tele??? Welcome to TFF.

What sort of 1911 are you looking for and will will you be using it for? (style police: excuse the dangling preposition ) More specifically, are you wanting a full size one? Will you use it for general shooting fun, CCW, home defense, etc.?

My answer to $1200 would vary according to your desires and plans. In general I would say, you can get a really nice 1911 in several different configurations from several different manufacturers. Look to Kimber, Baer, Colt, Wilson, Springfield.

It's a "vintage reissue", but I like it pretty well.

As for 1911's, I'm looking to ultimately own 2 of the same thing, which I'd like to use for home protection and to practice with at the range. Can't do a CCW yet (can be stupidly difficult in CA if you aren't or weren't some kind of agent of the government) so I'm looking for something full sized, accurate, reliable, and that I'll be keeping a while. Currently have three different HK's and would like to get rid of them for 2 of the same very nice 1911s. In 1911s, I've shot a Kimber custom (which was awfully nice) and a large capacity Para (which I hated). I do know the 1911s fit my hand better, feel more natural (well maybe except for th p9s), allow me to shoot better, and I never use the double action hk features anyway.

Thanks for the tips!

For shooting fun look to Kimber and Springfield. For $1200 you could come darn close to getting 2 of the same thing...definitely with Springfield...probably with Kimber if you look really hard.

For home defense, get a 12ga. with an extended mag.

Actually, I was expecting to pay $1,200 for one 1911, not two. I don't want to spend more than $2,000 for one, so I was kind of wondering if there were many strong opinions about 1911s in the $1,000 to 2,000 range.

For that money, you can buy just about any 1911 you want.

Colt, Kimber, SA, Wilson, Baer......they're all fine guns. Just a matter of what looks, feels, and shoots best for you.

sorry to make jokes in your thread. I just can't help it sometimes.

If you don't mind used I think you can get 2 nice ones for that money. I guess it is really up to you and if you want new or used.
