Default 2014 Jeep Cherokee

not Grand Cherokee, they're bringing back the Cherokee

http://jalopnik.com/2014-jeep-cherok...s-it-335476306

Certainly not what i was expecting, but it's a unibody just like the old one, but unlike all the Crossovers flooding the market these days, this Crossover/SUV has plenty of ground clearance and a simple yet rugged 4x4 system. Meant to be an inexpensive minimalist off roader.

I wouldn't drive that on the street either. It's NOT a jeep.

Don't think I'll be trading my 99 Cherokee in on it right away.

Had a 69 and a 72 Wagoneer and liked them both. I have had no interest in Jeeps since Chrysler took them over.

The new Cherokee just reinforces that.

Just dumped an 06 Grand Cherokee Overland with 42 thousand miles on it because of horror stories. Gas mileage was a whopping 11 to 15 city and 18 to 19 highway. I took a royal beating on the trade in on a 2013 Kia Sorrento. After much research and talking to 68c15 I was hooked. The Kia warranty is unbeatable. 10 years 100 thousand miles with a lifetime on the power train. I just couldnt pass this up. The Kia has a 3.6 liter 6 cylinder and runs like a scalded cat. Gas mileage even getting on it a bit is near 18 city 24 to 25 highway. At 38,200 sticker I got a lot more car than the Jeep with a sticker of 48, 805. Never another Jeep Dhamler Chrysler product in my driveway!

if it's built on the same chassis as the new durango I place it in the "pathetic joke" section.

what does a person do if they are drowning? they tend to wave their arms and splash violently while making loud noises. just like modern car makers. look at who has all kinds of new models and flashy features and who doesn't

Those older Cherokee's are hard to find. My Dad has a 91, and thinks its the greatest vehicle ever. I tried to find one a couple yrs ago, to drive in the winter, my road does not get plowed, and even if it did, i have a 250ft driveway. So the hotrod just stays in the barn until spring.

The 2011+ GRAND Cherokee's use the Durango chassis. This Cherokee is based off of an Alfa Romeo's hatchback chassis. It will be smaller than the Grand Cherokee. Offered with small engines, it's meant to be cheap, and fuel efficient. Whereas the Grand Cherokee has the SRT8 model with the 6.4L V8 with 470HP/470Ft.LBS Torque.

My buddy has one, lifted and on some swampers. It's so unreliable he doesn't take it out on any trails because of all the times its broke down.

What vehicle do you recommend, im driving a a 2000 Chevy 2500 4x4 now. Its great in the snow, but eats me up in gas, i have a 40 mile round trip for work every day. Before next winter, i would like to replace it with some sort of small SUV.

Readygirl, I researched many of the newer SUV's and also got information from 68c15 on what he likes because he sees them from the mechanics side not the drivers view. He recommended the KIA Sorento. We just bought the Sorento SX V6 a 2013 model with every option you can have except running boards and a few weeks ago my wife and I went to dinner. We came out and had about an inch of snow that was complete ice underneath. On the way home I never had to use the 4 wheel drive and had to go up and over a 9% grade hill. Others were stuck I went past them and the AWD did just fine I was really impressed and I tried to get it stuck on my road a few weeks ago coming home in deeper snow and it just wouldnt let the wheels spin. I was never much for a foreign car but I will and have recommended the Kia Sorento to anyone who has asked me.

We just got the 2013 Kia Sorento LX (We wanted the V-6) but it comes with a third row of seats and I couldn't drive or ride in it comfortably at all.

It rides much better than the 2011 Sorento we traded in on it. We got running boards and I hate them. The darn thing is not tall enough to warrant them.

If a Pontiac Aztek and relations with a Jeep Compass this would be the resulting love child.

The LX doesnt come with the V6 but the EX and the SX do. What does the third seat have to do with driving it? Im no small man by any means and the only gripe I have about driving it is the pedals dont move like the Jeeps did.

Another thing that bugs me about the Sorento is. I wanted heated and cooled seats... Hmmm you have to go to the next package then It only comes with a cooled drivers side seat without the option to cool the passenger seat. Any other model other then the LX you MUST take rails on the top.. I dont want rails... Then you have to get the LX with cloth seats. Ok I take rails but they are of no use unless I BUY the cross bars for them!

Other than those gripes I love it and it runs like a scalded cat.

I dont blame you cpttango about the running boards. The one I test drove had them and as son as I wen to get out I told them I didnt want them on mine. Like you said they are useless. You cant step up on t them as the vehicle isnt high enough and they hit you in the back of the leg getting in or out and leave a dirt mark on your pants.
