One of the most alarming facts to me isn't that the government is always trying to ban guns... but that I have yet to see one that includes exceptions. Even in countries where weapons are tightly controlled with proper permits it seems like you have a reasonable (albiet limited and expensive) selection...
None of our proposed gun bans seem to include that. It seems like on guns most countries tend to be in the center, we are on the right, but trying to jump clear to the left. Is this a proper observation?

I'm not sure but the counties with the exceptions might be those that mandate most of the populace into the service such as Israel and Switerland. That might be the difference. I don't really know, or this a case of the rich running the governments.

Well if the federal law doesn't allow for any excepetions (such as permits) then the states aren't going to be able to allow it, without a messy court battle.

That issue reared it's ugly head in 1861. it generally gets mired down in the slavery issue, of which was a small part, but mainly evolved around states rights vs being told what to do by the federal government.

Check the FBI website......Recent 5-year study shows NO CRIMINAL was ever deterred by a gun law - by their own admission !! Likewise perps involved in LEO shootings not only had a life-long familarity with guns - they practiced at least twice as often as their vics, ( 24+ hrs/yr vs 14 for LEOS !!! >MW

Gun permits restrictions, gun bans affect law abiding citizens. they do not affect criminals! Criminals could care less about laws. Last edited by Silver Fox; 11-03-2008 at 01:05 PM.. |
