"We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism." ~ Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959 "A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship." ~ Alexander Tyler, history professor at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, 1787

It is a perversion of terms to say that a charter gives rights. It operates by a contrary effect — that of taking rights away. Rights are inherently in all the inhabitants; but charters, by annulling those rights, in the majority, leave the right, by exclusion, in the hands of a few . . . They . . . consequently are instruments of injustice.
The fact, therefore, must be that the individuals, themselves, each, in his own personal and sovereign right, entered into a compact with each other to produce a government: and this is the only mode in which governments have a right to arise, and the only principle on which they have a right to exist. Thomas Paine, "The Rights of Man" |

I don't have any quotes to post, but I sure am glad to read the ones you guys have put down. The one I can remember comes from Mr. Churchill when he said "Never, never, never, never give up the fight, no matter the strength of the enemy........" can't remember the rest, but the first part means a lot. We cannot give up to this government. It is not just Obama, it is all the men and women who are in the Congress right now. Most of them have been there too long and need to be booted out. I can't believe the American people keep letting these guys hang on year after year without any consequences to their actions. I say we all start to push for term limits. I don't know how you get it going, but there must be a way to get a Constitutional Ammendment started that will kick these dead heads out of office. Otherwise, we will be taking up the fight in the streets agains the so called "Civilian Militia" our dear president wants to form. Do you think the military will actually shoot at civilians if so ordered? Pretty heady stuff if you ask me.

Experience has shown that even under the best forms of government, those entrusted with power have in time and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny Thomas Jefferson
Any society that would give up a liberty to gain a little security, will deserve neither and lose both. Benjamin Fraklin One man with a gun can control 100 men with out one Vladimire Lenin The best way to destroy capitalistic system is to debauch their currency Vladimire Lenin Ideas are more powerful than guns, we would not let our enemies have guns, why would we let them have ideas. Stalin Socilaism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ingnorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. Wiston Churchill. I predict future happiness for Americans, if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson While the state exists there can be no freedom, when there is freedom there will be no state. Vladimire Lenin A lie told often enough becomes the truth. Vladimire Lenin It is true that liberty is so preciuos, that it must be rationed. Vladimir Lenin Some people regard free enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow thay can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a strudy wagon. There is a danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty. John Adams No free man shal ever be debarred the use of arms. Thomas Jefferson The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms, is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in its government. Thomas Jefferson Remember democracy never last long. It soon wastes , exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. John Adams The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Thomas Jefferson Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other. John Adams Firearms are secondary only to the constitution in importance, they are the peoples libertys teeth. George Washington Gard against the imposters of pretended patriotism. George Washington It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible. George Washington I believe ther are more instnces of the abridgement of freedom of the people ,by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power, than by violent and sudden upsurpation. James Madision Probably the greatest harm done by great wealth, is the harm that we of modest means do ourselves when we let the vices of envy and hatred enter deep into our own nature. Theodore Rosevelt The first requisite of a good citizen in the republic of ours is that he shall be able to pull his own weight. Theodore Roosevelt The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price , safty first instead of duty first, the love of soft living, and the get rich theroy of life. Theodore Roosevelt Freedom is never more than one generation form extinction. WE did not pass it to our childern in the blood stream. It must be fought for, protected and handed onto them to do the same. Ronald Regan How do you tell a communist? Well its someone who reads Marks and Lenin. How do you tell an anticommunist? Its someone who understands Marks and Lenin. Ronald Regan The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: It connected the one indissolable bond of the priniciples of civil governmnet with the principles of Christanity. John Quincy Adams With out God , democracy will not long endure. Ronald Regan The most terrifing words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I am here to help. Ronald Regan You canalways count on the Americains to do the right thing, after they have tried everything else. Winston Churchill An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile hoping it will eat him last. Winston Churchill Kites fly highest against the wind, not with it. Winston Churchill All tyranny needs to gaina foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. Thomas Jefferson Let not the rifles of good and free men be reforged into plow shears, but may they rest in a place of honor:ready well oiled and God williing unused. For if the price of peace becomes licking the boots of tyrants, "Then to Arms!" I say and may the the fortunes of war smile on the patriots |

We established however some, although not all its [self-government] important principles . The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved,) or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed;
---Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824. Memorial Edition 16:45, Lipscomb and Bergh, editors. Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive. ---Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution (Philadelphia 1787). Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined. O sir, we should have fine times, indeed, if, to punish tyrants, it were only sufficient to assemble the people! Your arms, wherewith you could defend yourselves, are gone...Did you ever read of any revolution in a nation...inflicted by those who had no power at all? ---Patrick Henry to Edmund Pendleton at the Virginia ratifying convention held June 2 through June 26, 1788 The whole of that Bill [of Rights] is a declaration of the right of the people at large or considered as individuals...[I]t establishes some rights of the individual as unalienable and which consequently, no majority has a right to deprive them of. ---Albert Gallatin to Alexander Addison, Oct 7, 1789, MS. in N.Y. Hist. Soc.-A.G. Papers, 2. [C]onceived it to be the privilege of every citizen, and one of his most essential rights, to bear arms, and to resist every attack upon his liberty or property, by whomsoever made. The particular states, like private citizens, have a right to be armed, and to defend, by force of arms, their rights, when invaded. -----Roger Sherman; 14 Debates in the House of Representatives, ed. Linda Grand De Pauw. (Balt., Johns Hopkins Univ. Press, 1972), 92-3.

Oh look....more....
"[Knowledge is neither good nor evil, but takes its character from how it is used.] In like manner, weapons defend the lives of those who wish to live peacefully, and they also, on many occasions kill [murder] men, not because of any wickedness inherent in them but because those who wield them do so in an evil way." ---Boccaccio, The Decameron 686 (Musa & P. Bondanella trans., Mentor-New American Library 1982). "The defence of one's self, justly called the primary law of nature, is not, nor can it be abrogated by any regulation of municipal law." --- James Wilson, Wilson, Of the Natural Rights of Individuals, in 2 The Works of James Wilson 335 (J.D. Andrews ed. 1896). "Resistance to sudden violence, for the preservation not only of my person, my limbs, and life, but of my property, is an indisputable right of nature which I have never surrendered to the public by the compact of society, and which perhaps, I could not surrender if I would." --- John Adams, Boston Gazette, Sept. 5, 1763,reprinted in 3 The Works of John Adams 438 (Charles F. Adams ed., 1851). "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." --Thomas Jefferson, quoting Cesare Beccaria in On Crimes and Punishment (1764). "Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.... The right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America but which historically has proven to be always possible. " -- Senator Hubert H. Humphrey "That the people have a Right to mass and to bear arms; that a well regulated militia composed of the Body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper natural and safe defense of a free State..." -- George Mason "And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press, or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms; or to raise standing armies, unless necessary for the defense of the United States, or of some one or more of them; or to prevent the people from petitioning, in a peaceable and orderly manner, the federal legislature, for a redress of grievances; or to subject the people to unreasonable searches and seizures of their persons, papers or possesions." -- Samuel Adams, Debates of the Massachusetts Convention of 1788 Note that our present majority representation begs to differ with all of these gentlemen.

"Two basic reasons underlie the attempt to separate America from its spiritual roots. First, the liberal goal of state socialism is incompatible with a citizenry who look to themselves and to God, rather than the state, for the satisfaction of their needs. Socialism requires that citizens do obeisance to the state as the Source from which all blessings flow. The supreme State can have no other God before it. The second reason for outlawing religion derives from the lobbying of those who wish their sins declared virtues. They seek the validation of the law, in the futile belief that the legal right to be wrong makes wrong right."

Yep, we are well on our way to socialism, and, of course, communism will undoubtably follow.
Due to my advanced age, I will probably not be around to view the final meltdown of our once great society...

I wonder if anyone can help me to find a quote and author that I recall from over thirty years ago. I have searched the internet and even had the local library research it, all to no avail. Fragments of the quote are something like:
"What have we then to fear in the word revolution? (blank) and (blank) are the twin stars which have guided our pathway. Those who want (blank) and (blank) without violence and struggle, want (blank) without (blank)...." Then ends with the line: "We were born to be rebels, it runs in our blood". I really loved this quote, but I can't find it anywhere. Last edited by RunningOnMT; 12-07-2008 at 10:17 PM.. |

Vlad,
Yes it's about liberty and revolution. While the tone seems definately Thomas Painish.....one part makes me wonder if it wasn't civil war era.....when it says "we were born to be rebels it runs in the blood."...seems like it's someone after the American revolution referring back to that time and their forefathers. And no, I don't remember the blanks exactly and what I did write I was paraphrasing. The jist of it is...and I'm not sugesting that these were the words...but it was like, "those who want liberty and justice without revolution and bloodshed are like those who want rain without thunder and lightning". Here are two appropriate ones I found while searching.
"Are we at last brought to such a humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our own defence? Where is the difference between having our arms in our own possession and under our own direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defence be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?" - Patrick Henry "The Constitution shall never be construed... to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms." Samuel Adams |

"When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow." Anais Nin
"All of us who are concerned for peace and triumph of reason and justice must be keenly aware of how small an influence reason and honest goodwill exert upon events in the political field." Albert Einstein "I love a dog. He does nothing for political reasons." Will Rogers "The basis of our political system is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of governments." George Washington "In most communities it is illegal to cry "fire" in a crowded assembly. Should it not be considered serious international misconduct to manufacture a general war scare in an effort to achieve local political aims?" Dwight D. Eisenhower "History teaches us that man learns nothing from history." Anon |
