My husband has a Savage 25-35 1899 hex 26" barrel and we are trying to find out what it might be worth. The numbers that are on the bottom of the receiver are 41.716. The inscription on the top of the barrel says Manufactured by the Savage Arms Company, Utica NY USA Patented February 7, 1893, July 25, 1893, October 3, 1899. The bluing is good. No damage on the wood. There is a bullet counter as well. There is a rear pop up pin hole site. Can anyone help?

Savage made a couple of Models 99s (Actually a whole bunch ). Is the barrel round or octagon of half and half. Is there any checkering, does it have a pistol grip or straight grip. I think ( because of the inscripion and made before 1947) you have a Model 1899-A with 26 inch barrel. But a little more info would help.

It is a full octagonal barrel, no pistol grip and no checkering.

Hi amcmillan.....welcome to TFF.
With a full ocgtagon barrel, and the features you describe, RJay has nailed it. It's a Model 1899A. Current Blue Book value (% = amount of original finish left): Below values reflect a 25% premium for .25-35 caliber: 98% = $1,400 95% = $1,667 90% = $1,000 80% = $867 70% = $767 60% = $667 |

countrycorgi,
The model described above is an 1899 C. 26 inch bbl, full octogon. The shape of the buttstock would be useful. Does it have a crescent, rifle buttplate or some other shape? If it's chambered for 25-35 winchester that will add to it's value, very desirable caliber in this model rifle. Even more so in the C model. Condition is everything. Without pictures, I'm not guessing what it's worth. If it has any extra holes drilled into it for sling eyes, scope mounts, whatever, value drops a lot. Recoil pad, drops some more. It was made around 1903 or 1904, maybe a year earlier. The Model 1899A had a round bbl, the B model had a half round bbl, the C model had the full octogon model. A couple sub variations on the A as well. Nice rifle to have, enjoy. |
