Hi
I have a Remington 504 in 22 cal. and would like to know if anyone has any info on them. How accurate they are or anything that would help. Just bought it new and know they quit making them in 2007. Thanks RDHill

I have handled one at the range and that one shot well with the bulk junk the owner was feeding it. Still it was shooting 3/4" to 1" groups at 50 yards with a 3-9 scope. Beutifull rifles, look like a small 700. Hope you picked it up at a good price as they sold new for more money than what CZ builds. Yours should have an adjustable trigger that can be turned down to make a nice hunter out of it. Probably some you tube trigger tuneing upgrades for that to out there. Try some better match grade ammo when you can but give it around 10 rounds with a brand before seeing how well it will group. Ole Wolf/SK seem to shot well in everthing and cost is not to high. What scope you have on it. You might end up with a nice 1/2" or less 50 yard rifle with the right ammo. See what the guys over at rimfire central have to say in the reminton section

Thanks for the information. I have a Bushnell Banner 4x12x40mm scope on it. I may have give too much for it but it is new. Probably not many new ones around since the went out of production in 2007. Next time I have time to shoot it I will try some of the Wolf/SK and see how it does.

Good scope. Japan made, great glass in them. A couple ammo labels to try is for low cost good ammo ,federal 711b, under 5.00 bucks a box and federal 922a ,under 10.00. It is loaded by rws, r-50 or r-100 reject ammo. Good luck

Got to shoot some Saturday evening. Just shot some Remington Yellow Jackets in it and it didn't do very good. Went home and read a lot of info on getting the 504 to shoot. Some good and some bad so I decided to free float the barrel. Took the stock off and removed some wood out of the end of the stock. When finished sealed it with tung oil and replaced the action and just snugged the screws up. Took it out today and shot it again. Only shooting 20 yards but the group size was very good. Tried some mini mags too and all the groups were 6 shots and I would have 3-4 holes and all of them touching. I have not been shooting any in several years so I am pleased with the 504 now.

Your best accuracy will probably come with subsonic ammo such as Fed 711b, Winchester subsonic HP, Wolf MT, Wolf ME, or SK Std +. Some of these should produce 1/2 in 5 shot groups at 50 yds. Also helps to have a good rest, front and rear. A lot of 22's shoot better if the action screws are torqued. I usually start around 14 in pounds and work up to 26-28 to find the sweet spot.Good luck.

May also try a support unde the front of the barrel. Some times it helps some times it hurts.
bamajoey is spot on with ammo choices. Just give it around 10 throw away shots before trying each different type or brand for group. |

It depends on whether it is a sporter or "T" (target) model. I assume it is a sporter
or you would have specified. If it is a target model, the chamber is pretty good as is. If it is a "sporter", and you really want a high level of accuracy, Lilja makes a replacement barrel that is expensive but very high quality. Also, if you are serious about accuracy, and willing to pay the price, get some Eley Tenex, or Lapua X-act. All hypervelocity .22 ammo is pretty inaccurate, and the so-called "target" ammo of domestic manufacture is pretty poor. Also, although it is just my opinion, free floating the barrel almost always produces the best accuracy. Look at what benchrest shooters use. rt |
