Default How much is a billion dollars?

The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were

living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes,

at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...

let's take a look at New Orleans ..

It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,

Mary Landrieu, is presently asking Congress for

250 BILLION DOLLARS

to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...

what does it mean?

A.

Well. if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans

(every man, woman, and child)

you each get $516,528.

B.

Or.. if you have one of the 188,251 homes in

New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.

Or.. if you are a family of four...

your family gets $2,066,012.

How many 3000 sqaure feet houses with a standard 8 foot ceiling would it take to contain a billion dollars?

The Louisiana senator wants $250 billion? No problem. Hold on. It will take just a few minutes to warm up the printing press.

Do you know that the losers in New Orleans are still sitting on their butt's with their hands out.
We tried to vote her out but greed won out.

One billion dollars is a stack of hundreds about a mile high. If you were born on the same day as Jesus Christ and were handed a billion dollars spending it at a rate of thousand dollars a day since then you would still have over 800 years to go. The scary one to me is that the entire annual budget for the USA in 1957 was only 80 billion dollars and today those idiots in congress want to give away 10 times that amount not including the One+Trillion dollar annual budget they are overdrawing (deficit spending) by another 600 billion each and every year. When Regan took office he said in a speech that the actuary (real) debt of the nation was about 12 Trillion dollars. That divided by 300 million people = $40,000.00 for every man woman and child. That was back then and God only knows where it is at today. So the next time you see a welfare recipient pushing a stroller with 4 or 5 kids trailing behind reach deep into your pocket because it is you with a job or property who is going to have to make up the difference for them. Obama was not kidding when he was talking a redistribution of wealth. The problem is that most people think is that it is only the wealthy he going to take from and I believe that if you have a home, a car, a few bucks in a 401 K and a couple of guns by his criteria you are far too wealthy.

According to IRS publications, there were approximately (rounded) 220,000,000 (220 million) tax returns filed by individuals in 2007.

They have a bailout of $750,000,000,000 going to "butress" and "invigorate" the economy.

So,if we lop off the 6 zeros on the 220 figure and 6 zeros on the bailout number, we have numbers which will fit into my calculator. $750,000 divided by 220 comes to $3,409.09 which could be sent to everybody who filed a tax return in 2007.

Hmmmm Ya think maybe that might "butress" and "invigorate" the economy?

It's a great theory and it would probably work too....but if they did that, then those AIG dudes would never have gotten their $400000 spa party and the wooden arrows and rum dudes would be chit outta luck....

I was at a meeting last night and the main speaker was an economist - he said he has spent weeks trying to figure out the whole bail out theory since bailing out the mortgages and banks is no where near the numbers that the government gave away.... basically he said the numbers make no sense....

in a couple of years we'll all get billed that $3,409 to help them pay back the bail out....won't that be just wonderful....arghhh....pooey

Who's gonna bail me out? Hey if you cant manage you look for new work. If you manage your company into the dirt, you shovel it by yourself! The problem with the big three auto makers is that they have been in bed with the idiots in washington so long they dont have a clue about free enterprise any more.

That makes far more sense to me than giving the car companies money; for what because of slow sales? What does bailing out the big three have to do with increasing sales? Nada f****** thing...
