I need suggestions on a scope for a 10/22. I also need help understanding parallax and why a scope for a high powered rifle cannot help you in attaining the best accuracy possible from a rimfire. Thanks

Parallax is what you see when you move your head, rifle resting untouched in sand bags, on target, the cross hairs will appear to move around the target as you move your head slightly still looking through the lens..... Unless you are at the preset range the manufacture chose to have it paralax free at. The movement can add up to a minute of angle or more. With an adjustable paralax scope you are able to focus the retical at the distance your are shooting at and no matter how you look through your scope, the cross hairs remain steadily fixed on the target. That said, most centerfire rifle scopes are paralax free at 100-150 yds. a bit far for most rimfire shooting. Likely your cross hairs will move around on the target, as you move your head while still looking through the eye piece at 50 yd. with one of these.

I hope you undersand my explanation of paralax, I don't know what causes it, only that having it fixed to one distance can make a difference at all others. Generally any scope calling itself a "target" model will have adjustable paralax. By the way Burris I think still makes a 6X HBR (hunter bench rest) target scope with adjustable paralax that works very well on accurate .22's. Best regards Kirk ![]() |

Thanks for explanation 300 H&H. That is exactly what I was looking for. I will check into the Burris. Any other scopes I need to check into? Anyone?

I like the little Bushnell Banner 4-12X40. Not a bad little scope at all for the price range (usually around $90 or so). Works great for a 10/22 scope.

I went with a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 for my 10/22 - pretty decent quality, clear, nice optic.
