I like SOME of every type of music, and there are GREAT ones here. My all time favorite has to be Mike + The Mechanics doing Silent Running, and that is mainly for the lyrics, which are absolutely haunting to me. Nobody here can possibly not like these: Take the children and yourself And hide out in the cellar By now the fighting will be close at hand Don't believe the church and state And everything they tell you Believe in me, I'm with the high command Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? There's a gun and ammunition Just inside the doorway Use it only in emergency Better you should pray to God The Father and the Spirit Will guide you and protect from up here Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Swear allegiance to the flag Whatever flag they offer Never hint at what you really feel Teach the children quietly For some day sons and daughters Will rise up and fight while we stood still Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?

Without a doubt, "Nessun Dorma" as performed HERE by the greatest tenor of our generation, if not the 20th century. (Well, maybe second to Marlin).
It's only 3 minutes but everyone should listen to it at least once in their lives.

Back in the 60's I used to eat lunch everyday at a burger stand near where I worked, and play two songs on the Juke Box,
Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence" and The Mama's and the Poppa's "California Dreaming" To this day when I hear either of those songs, I can still taste those hamburgers!!! I also liked just about anything form CCR.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band: Blinded By the Light
If I had to nail it down to a single song ever... but then it's that unquestionably.

It is difficult to narrow down a lifetime of favorite music of all styles. Favorites change over the years!
One of mine is Electric Light Orchestra: Hold On Tight. It's a mood-lifter for me.

This question has really tested some folk.
I have no musical ability or taste, when I got married I didn't even own an record player! Told my music mad brother in law I bought a record once, didn't like it so never bought another. In truth I love having music around when I work, especially the drawing and painting. It helps and really can change your mood. ![]()

I'm like TeeJay9, i remember when a new Beatles album came out I would find a new Beatles song that would be my favorite.
I got an MP3 player for Christmas and found some stuff from the Beatles masters, earlier versions of some hit Beatles songs. I like hearing the comments the guys were making while recording. I like most anything by Genesis, Sting, and lots of others. Great music is like great food. I don't have one favorite, I like the variety of tastes and flavors.

Gimme Shelter-Rolling Stones, How long-Ace (Paul Carrack, one of the greatest vocalists ever!), Whipping Post-Allman Bros, Frozen Love-Buckingham/Nicks, Crossroads-Cream (second guitar solo one of the greatest ever!), and Trademark-Eric Johnson (the 'guitarists' guitarist!!).

Holy cow!! I am a music nut as well. It all depends on the mood. I can swing from Country to Classical in a heart beat. Had to go play in a soft ball game and when I got there Andrea Bocelli was screaming out of my speakers. I love the Eagles, Simon and Garfunkle, Kansas, Lynrd Skynrd, Genesis, Shania Twain, etc. The only stuff I don't like is heavy metal and rap.

I heard it thru the grapevine, Creedence Clear Water's version is one, lotsa Mega Death, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Supultura, and old bluegrass, and that good "ole" old timey music. We're an American Band by Grand funk, Tak'in Care of Business by Bachman Turner Overdrive, Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash, all the Travel'in Willbury's, good stuff.

I'd have to add this one right up there at the top of the list, too.
Brings a tear to my eye every time. Mike and the Mechanics, The Living Years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOSrKNVF2VI

I could never hope to narrow it down to the 100 most favorite let alone one. I have many favorites and like each for different reasons. Songs are almost like children...very hard to say you have a favorite.
I have often said "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd is the best rock song ever, but that has a lot to do with how I felt when it first came out. One special song to me for personal reasons is "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. It would be easier to discuss favorite groups or artists, yet no one is alone in the number one slot with me. I would have to say that Fleetwood Mac has produced a lot of my favorite music. Have also been a long time Eric Clapton fan. But then there's Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Tom Petty etc. I also have newer favorites that are in a slightly different genre. Nora jones is a new favorite. Just recently discovered a young violinist named Lucia Micarelli that blows me away....you can see her here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRyrlJmEhW4 |

![]() Hello and bless y'all.Been away couple days....wonderful question. Answer fast as I can..... Had band when younger, then single act when time allowed later in life. Natural voice so close to Wiliie's , not hard to do him, have known him long time and well...he liked it...also good versions of Orbitson and Elvi and Marty Robbins...when younger big Led Zep fan ( god bless # IV)....anyhoo with all that down the pike, same as others feel, too mant to choose one , but will go with - "just as I am " (religious)...for those who know music, that melody done by proper acoustic guitar lead will fix it all.... best wishes ..... ![]() ![]() |

Vivaldi, Concerto in D Major, 2nd movement. (Also played in John Wayne's, "The Cowboys.")
Used to teach classical guitar. Surprise the heck outt'a folks that visit while working horses here at the ranch as classical music has the beat for movement of the horse. Especially 3/4 time (waltzes). It is the beat of our heart and that of the classic animation of man and equine combined, but when the horse and rider are in concert with the animation of being one, then: Quote:

There is a little hope guys! My son and I used to have 'music wars'....he with his rap crap and me with my rock! I won mainly because my stereo had more wattage! hahaha! But today, he's 25, and believe it or not, the rap is gone and he's very much into Classic Rock! He's borrowed many of my CD's now to put on his ipod and I'm a proud mom for converting him to REAL MUSIC! hahaha!!! So don't give up! There IS hope!!! ![]()
