the rear sight on your model X is not original. the 2X has adjustable rear open sight quite unlike that on your rifle. it also look like the forearm has been shorten.

one of the post above has the value of this model (dated 1-14-10) and there are no factory serial number records available for this model. only the years of production for the model X it was 1928 through 1942.

Bill, and others, you might find this of interest. Earlier today I was watching the Greg Martin online gun auction out of CA. He had an I.J. model X up for auction. Not a lot of description but looked pretty good and sold for just $50!

I got distracted by something and missed when it was being auctioned. Got back to the computer too late. I would have been bidding on that one.

I finally took some old guns that were given to me years ago out of the safe to see what they were. One is what appears to be a late Model X, serial number 39405. Rifle is in good condition. Is missing the bolt. Were the bolts of the different Model X's interchangable. Any idea where I can obtain a bolt for this little rifle?

the model X single shot 22's all have a couple of things in common. they all used the same bolt and were all serial numbered in the same series. the only problem i have enountered is there does not appear to be any variations in any (except for the early models X have the schnable tip foreend). therefore dating them is very difficult. there are no known factory serial number records available for this model. to make thing even harder the total built is unknown.

one thing known is that only the model 2X was made after WWll according to the catalogs i have. so all X,s abd 2X-A were made before about 1942. for now all the information is have on X series of single shot 22 rifles is posted below.

EARLY MODEL

one final piece of information is all have a serial number but it is hard to find, look the rifle over carefully after removing the stock. most often place is the bottom of the barrel hidden by the stock. a true 2X-A model is rare and hard to find as a lot of X and 2X models were altered by the addition of a peep rear sight.

Hi All,
I have just had the good fortune to have purchased an
IVER JOHNSON MODEL X .22 RIMFIRE BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Serial #4886.
Overall the rifle is in very good condition. The stock has been redone sometime in the past . But has no dents or cracks that I can notice.
The metal is also in nice condition with a few specks of surface rust and some very slight pitting.
Overall i am a very happy camper.
One issue that I was aware of , and was brought to my attention by the seller was that the bolt/screw that keeps the trigger assembly attached to the receiver is slightly stripped.
I think the screw would turn into the hole if I used a little force but i don't want to booger it up any further.
Other then tapping the hole to accept a larger screw would there be any other way to fix this issue?
Thanks in advance for any ideas and suggestions.

Hi there.
I recently came across one of these Model x rifles and am wondering if there are parts anywhere for them.
It needs a new bolt,as the shells arent ejecting and the bolt has a long gouge on the bottom of it,no doubt from previous owners not pressing the trigger when taking the bolt out.
other than that its in good cond.
Any help would be appreciated.
Could i have the bolt welded and machined at all?

Check the links below, They may have some parts for your rifle.
As far as repairing the bolt i would think it could be repaired by welding.
Best bet is to check with a good gunsmith for advice.

You won't have much luck finding a bolt, best bet is to find one in horrible shape and use for parts. It's also hard to find the first stocks with the stauble on the forend.

Hi Bill, My Iver Johnson serial no. is 16089 and under the Patent number there is no word CANADA, What time frame would that place this rifel (model X single 22)

Welcome to the forum Bill H, but if you're addressing Bill Goforth, he sadly passed away last year, and there's no info in his book regarding the Model X's beyond what he listed in this thread.

Bill Goforth is no longer with us.
My father is no longer with us.
My grandfather's Iver Johnson turned up missing in my father's estate.

But we do have great collection of information thanks to the Bill's work.
I now hove both his Iver Johnson books.
