Sorry for jumping so quickly on the M4 comment. For years now every time I get in a conversation about battle rifles, someone always brings to the table 'the little black rifle'. So for me, it was just a knee jerk reaction of a tired old grunt.
Yeah I understand, I do the same thing when I hear praises for the AK47...so many Americans repeat the reputation of the rifle as though it were absolute truths, but never mention that the ultimate reason the weapon is so popular is that it is so cheap in Asia and Africa...or see the significance in the Soviets ditching the 7.62x39mm in 1980. It is tiring after a while....like listening to people praise Obama

Cyclone, you seem like a cool dude. One day I'm going ride out to see my country on two wheels, the whole thing, so keep the invitation open, it'd be nice to visit and meet interesting folks.

Bottom line i suppose is I don't care what you shoot as long as we're shooting at the same target. If we aren't shooting at each other then we're brothers in arms.

BTW...FAL's are getting real scarce. Talked to Atlantic Firearms on the phone last week. They are out of the FAL Imbels and don't know when or if they'll have them again. Anyone that owns one now should consider themselves fortunate.

Ahhhh okay......where I grew up Razorbacks ran free in the bottoms and big hardwoods. These are not an animal to fool with when they're in packs. Didn't see them again until I did training in Hohenfels, Germany....this is fairly close to Czechoslovakia, then Russia. They get so big it makes their size and distance deceiving...out in the grass you think you're looking at a big sow and some younguns about 100 meters away, but you drive up and realize it was a gigantic boar and some young adults on the back side of 200 meters away. I'm no biologist, but I think they're the same pig.

During the Depression, federal agents were killing livestock in order to limit supply to drive up demand. The farmers rather then seeing the wholesale slaughter of there animal, set them free to roam out the rest of their days.
Since that time the Boars have mixed in part with loose farm pigs resulting in a massive, shaggy, tusk bearing, nasty 350 to 500 lb creature.

You hunt them at night from the bed of a pickup and dare not to carelessly walk around.

If figure when I'm through with life I going to hunt them with just a spear and loincloth

Needless to say they are a worthy adversary.

Yep. Was back in the 90's, I was a young 11M putting in some time as an M2 crewmember until I could get back in a squad. We were sitting in a big circle perimeter with about 100+ meters between vehicles in Hohenfels. The guard shift was 25% all night until stand-to...so 1 vehicle per platoon. The dismounts were out in the hills.

About 0200 in the morning...I don't recall exactly but early as hell, this Columbian kid in my platoon was kicking my hatch to tell me it was my guard shift. So I'm up, piss over the back deck, sit on the hatch, NVG's on, rifle check, radios on, handmike check, turret power looks good...don't need driver to cold-start track...okay this kid is still on my deck and now I'm awake enough to really pay attention. "What's up dude?" I ask. "The f***ing pigs! They chased me from halfway here." or something to that affect.

This kid was close to crying. I listen and yep I can here them out there, but can't see them with 7b's...I kick the track thermals on, let them cool enough to see, and scan over and yep there's a bunch of big ones in front of us. It took a long time for them to leave and longer to convince him it was ok to go.

I don't mind admitting though, when it was my turn to go wake up the next track, the hair was standing up on my neck the whole way there and back. An M16 full of blanks wasn't much good...and a bayonet won't fix on with the blank adapter on. Things are like little rhinos. Feet don't fail me, feet don't fail me now....

Are wild boars as good eating as domestic pork? Any difference in taste?

Yes. In my opinion it depends a little on the time of year of the slaughter, but a fall/winter corn fed farm hog tastes better to me. I seen young razorback boars come back to pen from the woods (chasing sows) and end up wintering on corn and taste like a pen raised ham.

I also say though that a good man on the BBQ can make anything good.

Nothing like the other white meat. Wild "pigs"=small("Hogs"=LARGE)
Wild is dark and tame is white......two totally different animals and cuts. No matter how you feed them.
Is this bad game cooking and unknowing skilet slingers,,,,,,or real world guns?
Govenment shooting is a wives tale at best never repeated.
I think Mac&Cheese rules this thread.
Too many real rifles of the day for young guns to even remember........what made a real rifleman.

Pew-pew.........it`s heavy-GOD SAVE US

Sounds like it was a good year. I remember those years at deer camp where there was more pork than venison...nobody I remember complained.

We just ate some pork loin tonight....ya just can't mess it up...broiled, grilled, teriyaki marinade, bbq...just good. Haven't tried breading it and fried.......

No. we got 600 acres. White tail of course, hogs and Axis. The axis are free range. There is a guy on ajoining property that had boo koo axis. some got out and now there everywhere. I like it. Axis to me is better tasting than white tail. We are in Edwards county. Not going to say where on a public forum.

Ah, the antelop we hunted in New Mexico in September. We have a gun dealer in the houston area that guides and get us tags for the NM hunt

Cool...understand. Yeah I was straining my brain to recollect how far East-SE the antelope range and the line was pretty far west.

We hunt in area 58 i believe. top north east of the state. the rancher has 50K arces, but we only hunt 25 or so. there is a group of guys that usually go pretty much out of the houston area. i was able to get in with my buddy in houston about 8 years ago. it's a blast. lots of walking, glassing, crawling. i love it. it's the most challanging hunt with a rifle i think you can do.
