The Arizona Territory RVN Now what may appear to be a totally harmless peasant farmer working the rice paddies by day will be tryin' to wax your a$$ when the sun goes down. Not only did I do my fair share of quenching my thirst from the paddies (as you see here) but I also layed in them many nights ... along with the snakes and the leeches. Theres also a lesson to be learned here: Never send more than one of your own out into the open like this to check something out. This farmer could very well be a decoy to get you to bring the troops out into the open after which you will receive beau coup automatic weapons fire from the treeline. After losing 37 Marines (KIA) in about 10 seconds who were approaching a treeline from a paddy on Operation Essex (Nov. '67) in the Antenna Valley, we DEFINATELY learned a valuable lesson such as this. Whats that they say about "experience" being the best teacher? SixTGunr V.I.P. Nothing out of the ordinary ..... Right? We used to have little treats to hand out to the kiddies when the goin' got tough. Don't think I care to mention it at the moment but might be able to spit it out some day down the road. "What more can I say ..... You have some very good material there. It pleases the hell outt'a me that you are sharing---just so the bad dreams don't come or the bride may restrict my looking in and remembering. wilborn SixTGunr V.I.P. Wish I had some Chief cause mine are mostly "nightmares". Our base camp (AnHoa) was located about 30 miles south of DaNang and we had an air strip there (compliments of the Seabees) as you can see by the pic. Way off in the background you can see a bit of the hills we use to play in now and then. Sometimes we'd hump it there and sometimes they'd drop us off via chopper. To the north we had an outpost called Liberty Bridge and to the south we had Nong Son (I mentiond that somewhere before) or commonly refered to as the "coal mines". Our four companys would take turns rotating each outpost for weeks at a time and when in the rear we would pull perimeter security and run ambushes. We also would do mine sweeps and patrols "daily" to each of the outposts. They kept us pretty busy and so did "Charlie" ![]()
