I seem to have difficulty when assembling a 1911 in getting the slide stop in and snugged up against the frame. Is there a trick to it?

Use a small brass punch, or plastic rod to push in on the slide stop plunger while inserting the slide stop.

Brownells sells a tool called a Widget that works great when assembling a 1911, The flat end goes under the slide stop while depressing the plunger tube. A little thumb pressure on top of the slide stop, and it drops right in. I have used a paper clip and even a small knife blade doing the install but being very careful not to scratch the frame.
