Default No More War on Terror

First it was "Man caused Disasters", now we get this. George Orwell is smiling somewhere:

Don't mention the war on terror! Obama rebrands Bush's hated campaign as 'overseas contingency operation'

By Mail Foreign Service
25th March 2009

It was the most reviled policy of George W. Bush's presidency so the decision to rebrand the much derided 'war on terror' may seem particularly astute.

The wisdom of renaming it 'Overseas Contingency Operation' however, remains to be seen.

Washington speechwriters and other key officials were notified of the change today by email, according to The Washington Post.

Barack Obama has moved away from the terminology used by George W. Bush in the wake of the September 11 attacks

The leaked memo sent from the Defense Department's office of security notes: 'This administration prefers to avoid using the term "Long War" or"Global War on Terror".

'Please use 'Overseas Contingency Operation.'

Email recipients were asked to pass the information on to staff - and to amend uses of the phrase War On Terror, which was adopted after the September 11 attacks in 2001, in official documents.

However, there appeared to be some confusion about where the policy originated.

Kenneth Baer, spokesman from the Office of Management and Budget, said: 'There was no memo, no guidance.

'This is the opinion of a career civil servant.'

The Obama administration has been using the phrase Global Contingency Operation for around a month, in an apparent move to distance itself from the legacy of the Bush years.

The former President resisted pressure from his own advisers to rebrand the policy, despite claims the name did not reflect the realities of the fight against terrorism.

Options had included changing it to GSAVE, or Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism.

However, any such move was quashed after President Bush said it was still a war for him.

He who controls the language controls the arguement and the quest for power knows no shame.

Silly. What the hell is a contingency operation anyway.

Main Entry: con·tin·gen·cy
Pronunciation: \kən-ˈtin-jən(t)-sē\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural con·tin·gen·cies
Date: 1561
1: the quality or state of being contingent
2: a contingent event or condition: as a: an event (as an emergency) that may but is not certain to occur <trying to provide for every contingency> b: something liable to happen as an adjunct to or result of something else

Contingency is a "what if" plan. We are involved in a freaking war. Damn I can't stand libs. They try to act intelligent by throwing out big words the meaning of which they do not know. But then again..that is obama...the pretend president pretending to be an intellectual.

As USMC-03 intimated, language is important.

Muslims are not the bad guys anymore. I believe they are dusting off the Clinton playbook that says militias are the big threat to the nation.

I guess....guess ..mind you...no problem with a new guy ..in a job hes not really ready for...surrounded by yes men and gals...choosing to set up his plans in a way to start tryin to close some wounds and head in some kinda direction ...I dont know.....I usually believe in benefit of doubt in MOST areas....

but why dont he call..personally....every family that has lost a member to this "contingency" ..and tell em why or what he is doing...?

As said...I give MOST new jacks some leavway..I mean...Gorge did have his dad in corner..and I sure trust Cheney to tell you how cow eats cabbage......but in reality...and I mean it....why cant this birth certificate CRAP...get settled one way or other...for god's and our sake....?

I enjoyed listening to a level headed guy getting interviewed a few minutes today that I could catch "Savage"....

He was honest..."it's not that the GOP i gaining so much ground lately..iys just the damn Dem's
are LOOSING so much ground recently...

And old BIG EARS POTUS OMAMMA...hasnt learned the tricks of Loose Trousers 'Bill"..and start this big Gov spending per "specifics " or peice meal...as the guy said...its happenin everywhere.."the average Joe/Sue when asked..may not know the big difference betwen ..well...7 to 9 Trillion deficit...They just dont like the Hell of the way either of the estimates sound...!"

Pure rhetoric!

These are the same guys that are offended by the truth so they put sugar on a turd and pretend it's a doughnut. If they cause a plane crash, it was "unintentional aircraft terrain interface", but if it's your fault it was a plane crash.

Just like Obama saying that, "We'll leave behind 50,000 non-combat troops".

We don't have any such thing as non-combat troops. All rhetoric.
