Ok, now I have a question about these Glaser Safety Slugs, which are recommended for use w/a revolver in order to avoid overpenetration. From what I understand, they are filled with either 12 0r 6 shot birdshot? What kind of damage do these things do on contact, i.e. do they compare with a 410 fired out of the Taurus Judge? If I get a handgun, I will probably get a .38 special, I've seen several good used SandW's for $239-$269 (old police guns). Do any of you have any experience/knowledge/opinions about whether these safety slugs are a viable man-stopper and if they actually provide some safety as far as shooting through the wall into my fridge (which cost 3x the gun) or God forbid into the back room where my oldest kids sleep?

I like the glasers and used to carry some blue tipped 9mms in a browning.
Unlike Europe and here in the UK where inside walls tend to be brick, most of yours are wood or plaster. Over penetration is a real issue that glasers address. Keep in mind unlike a .410 where the shot will leave the muzzle loose, a glaser will penetrate as a tight unit and spread out inside, being held together until the case breaks open. Much more effective, plus you can have 10/15 glasers available in a semi auto pistol, (or 6 in a revolver) over the obvious limitations of a shotgun. As with a .410, heavy clothing, a wallet, belt buckle etc will lesson the effect. Cant have it both ways.

I used to keep those in my pistol when I lived in an apartment.

I like this one. The are shooting from left of screen. Have two hollowed-out pumpkins filled with water. The plan is to shoot the L/H pumpkin (bad guy) and the bullet not go through and hit the R/H pumpkin (good guy). It didn't work perfectly. As she said, "Oh, no. Good Pumpkin is leaking." But I bet if they'd shot it with a normal hollowpoint, Good Pumpkin would have exploded, just like Bad Pumpkin.

Glasers are a good choice for the situation you describe, Scooter, i.e., inside with other sleeping in adjacent rooms. Though a .38 Special is not an especially bad wall penetrator, it can happen. One possibility though is to mix your ammo load for the revolver. Set the first two or three up the spout as Glasers, and the rest as hollowpoints. That gives you some penetration ability should you need it.
