the 1861 springfield rifle musket was THE firearm of the civil war. The 1863 on the lock of most surviving rifle muskets indicates mfg date. but the model is indeed 1861. just like a mosin nagant 1891/30 can be stamped with dates ranging from 1891 to 1944, but they are all still model 1891 designs...
It takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile, and 3 for proper trigger squeeze.
The latest caliber or gear is no substitute for experience and skill. Rifles and cartridges don't make hits -- shooters do.
