Default I need to vent

Did you have the experience of suddenly becoming aware of something happening which you all ready knew about with renewed clarity, as if you were just discovering it for the first time?

I had this experience this afternoon during a telephone conversation with an old friend. We were discussing shooting in general and then he began telling me about some of the hunting laws in this state. He said there are so many rules and exceptions to rules that he can't remember them all and always has to second guess himself about whether he is legal.

Then we started talking about target shooting and plinking during hunting season and as he had told me before that's a no no in designated hunting areas. I related how hard it was any more to find a place to shoot. It seems like any area that is not private property is owned by the state. And while the state does have designated hunting areas in season, it is never open to just target shooting, even out of season. It just doesn't seem right that anything that isn't private property is owned either by the state or federal government. Shouldn't there be open land that is just there for all to use without a bunch of restrictions?

Then it just hit me...as if I was learning something new. The absurdity of it. And then I got pissed off. I mean really pissed off. I am so fed up with laws telling me what I can and can't do with no good reason. We are so controlled anymore I feel like a government owned robot.

It's bad enough thinking about the big things we all complain about every day like this socialist government bailing out private businesses, the gun grabbers that want to abolish our right to keep and bear arms, the failure of the government to secure our borders, but what struck me was the stupid little things. The government seems to want to insert itself with rules and regulations into every facet of our lives and I've had a belly full. It's as if they constantly need to exercise their authority to make sure we don't forget they own us. Well screw that. I'm tired of being owned.

I hope this hasn't been too incoherent. As I said I just needed to vent. Maybe I just need an attitude adjustment. Sometimes I think I'm the only one who feels this way.

I hear ya ROMT.
Here's a thought that ought to send your train right off the track.
You and I are (or were in my case) hard working, thinking folks. We've busted our tails for our little plot...........................................

Then a mental moron like Ted Turner comes along and acquires 2,000,000+ acres of land.

Talk about make a body feel like whale squeeze.

Hey, I know what you mean!

I remember living in Alaska in the 60's. We rented a little house right in Fairbanks, so had to go elsewhere to shoot. My buddy and I would go out to the city dump and shoot rats. Sometimes there would be someone else there doing the same thing. It was good practice, fun, and ridded the area of a varmint that NEEDED to be removed.

Well, that was 40 odd years ago -
Good luck finding a dump that would allow folks to come in and shoot TODAY!!

I am with you 100% and I know that it aint just the shooting laws and regulations you are talking about. You know us motorcycle riders had been bitchin'about helmet laws for a long time and there are states that is is mandatory to wear. Its just like the seat belt law in your own car. I look a the seat belt law like this, That is my car, I bought it, I pay for the up keep, I pay the insurence and everything else that has to do with my car. Where is it the governments place to tell me what I have to do in my car. It harms nobody but me if I dont wear it. I hate the fact that tose mental giants of our government think that my personal protection is there concern. I dont need or want some one lookn over my shoulder telling me, dont touch that its hot, when it should be up to me to decide weather or not its too hot for me so to speak. Its like this black car crap california is pullin, its BS and I dont like it.

OH wow there is someone out there that actually shot rats at the dump. Back when I was 14 years old ,we had an open dump for the town.(before landfills) MY Dad and I used to go up to the dump at night with headlamps and shoot rats with 22 pistols. Rats were everywhere at night especially. It was real good practice and I really enjoyed it.Sometimes youd shoot a rat and scan around for others and then you'd hear rats fighting over the dead rat. It was quite an experience. When I mention this to most people they look at me like I'm nuts.

OH yes and it is getting worse. It does get under your skin if you think about it too much. I cleaned out my yard of tree twigs and my christmas tree I thought I'd take the tree and twigs up to the state land rather than stick it in a landfill. I was going to make a good brush pile for rabbit cover cuase I do hunt there . Just to be sure I called the bureau and told them what I had in mind they said noway you cant dump Anything I explained again I thought they would be greatfull instaed all they said is NO its our policy. There are so many stupid regulations look at seat belts shoulder straps air bags where does it end

+1 for shooting rats at the dump, great fun, and yes people do tend to think you're strange if you talk about it.

As a former 'dump-rat' shooter, good luck finding a DUMP these days!

The city dump out at the edge of town is now Mt. Trashmore, surrounded by development.

I went out and bought some land, in part so I could shoot when I wanted to. Least it's still cheap enough that I could do that. Still gotta be careful not to shoot the neighbor... or his horse.
